Foundation Laying Ceremony
Foundation Laying Ceremony of Two Mega Projects of Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur was held. Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah laid foundation stone of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Chair at the estimated cost Rs. 41 million funded by Education & Literacy Department Govt. of Sindh and Date Palm Research Institute at the estimated Rs. 57.283 million. After laying stone of above two schemes. Inaugural ceremony was held in the Allama I. I Kazi Hall of SALU, Khairpur. While delivering the presidential address the Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah said that Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur is the gift of Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, because on the popular demand of the people of the Khairpur this institution was established to impart higher education. Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto kind enough to grant the SALU, Khairpur. Syed Qaim Ali Shah said that in Sindh there is no dearth of merit because there is potential, courtesy and dedication in our youth. He said that the efforts of sitting Vice Chancellor Dr. Parveen Shah are laudable especially in the establishment of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Chair at SALU, Khairpur. I hope that this building will be unique one. He said that after 18th amendment the education subject is an integral part of the province. The work for the establishment of Provincial Higher Education Commission is in progress. He said that the NFC award is the land mark achievement of the present Government. Previously the funds were divided on population basis; we have brought change in the award on the basis of multi criteria on the basis of resources. The Sindh got Rs. 55 billion and previously got 23 billion. It is the great achievement under the able leadership of President Mr. Asif Ali Zardari. Chief Minister Sindh said that with the efforts of present Government we have established 7 Universities in Sindh in public sector. The 4000 closed schools are open and are functional from 7000 closed schools. We are paying Rs. 3400 stipend to poor girls students especially in remote area of Thar Parkar and Dadu districts without any discrimination, because girls' education is very important in our society. He said that previously Rs. 4 billion were allocated on education but our Government allocated Rs. 14 billion for education sector. The Sindh Chief Minister announced to approve the establishment of housing society (scheme) for University employees on the land which is available in the University and made commitment to release the pending aid in grant Rs. 311 million and 9 million as an additional amount for Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur. Prof Dr. Parveen Shah Vice Chancellor Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur presented welcome address in the honor of Chief Minster Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah. She said I am very glad that Honorable Chief Executive of the Province is with us today. Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur is a big verity of educational institutions has become the City of Education. Right from my assuming the charge of Vice Chancellor I am confronted with many problems and challenges, but top of all where I am a bit helpless is the financial crunch this University is facing and as result we have to get loans to pay off salaries to the Staff and Employees. I am really grateful to Sindh Chief Minister for personally taking interest in the budgetary issues of University. Dr. Parveen Shah remarked that the University have set first ever academic calendar, compatible with other Universities in the province. We have setup the SALU, Alumni Association it would play very vibrant role in the shaping the viable institution world wide. Realizing the need of the people of this area we have introduced a new program through the Institute of Gender Studies it will cater the long standing need of this region. We have started the linkage program with 10 Universities of Pakistan and Higher Education Commission, under the title Consortium for the Development of the Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities. This aims to promote the academic and research activities and we have sign MoU with Ministry of Tourism Govt. of Sindh. The first ever advisory board of 5 chairs has been constituted for upgrading the research culture. The proceeding of the ceremony was conducted by Prof Dr. Mohammad Yousuf Khushk.
