SALU CIMC Activates Monsoon Safety Plan Across Campuses
Press Release
Khairpur, July 3, 2025
The Campus Infrastructure and Maintenance Committee (CIMC) of Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU), Khairpur, has formally initiated a comprehensive Monsoon Safety Plan in response to rainfall forecasts issued by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) and endorsed globally by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). The forecast indicates two active weather systems bringing rain, wind, and thunderstorms to upper Sindh between July 4 –8, with the likelihood of above-normal rainfall continuing into August.
In a meeting chaired by Vice Chancellor Meritorious Professor Dr. Yousuf Khushk, the CIMC was tasked with enforcing preventive measures to safeguard university infrastructure during the monsoon season. The Vice Chancellor emphasized that this initiative is vital to ensure campus safety and readiness, especially while academic activities remain suspended during the summer break. The meeting focused particularly on SALU’s main campus in Khairpur and its sub-campuses in Ghotki and Shahdadkot, where early precautions were deemed essential due to their geographic exposure.
As part of the monsoon plan, cleaning and disinfection of water storage tanks have already begun across the university premises to prevent contamination risks during the rainy period. Simultaneously, roof inspections and drainage clearance operations are underway to avert water accumulation and leakage. Tree pruning and maintenance of green areas are also being carried out to minimize hazards during expected storms. Officials were instructed to document the condition of university buildings by submitting periodic video reports from July 3 to September 3 for monitoring and future reference.
While the monsoon safety plan remained the central focus of the meeting, additional agenda items were also discussed. These included directives that no construction or repair work—especially concerning gas, water, or sewerage lines—would be permitted without a formal No Objection Certificate (NOC) issued by the Project Directorate.
The Vice Chancellor further directed that maps of all utility lines be updated and visibly displayed in relevant offices for operational transparency and coordination.
The CIMC, led by Eng. Asghar Ali Shaikh, has been given the responsibility to oversee and ensure the timely execution of all measures outlined in the plan. The committee will provide regular updates to the university administration, ensuring preparedness at every level, particularly at the Khairpur, Ghotki, and Shahdadkot campuses.
Vice Chancellor Dr. Yousuf Khushk reiterated that a proactive approach to seasonal challenges reflects the university’s commitment to providing a safe, functional, and aesthetically maintained academic environment. He praised the dedication of administrative and engineering staff and affirmed that such efforts align with SALU’s broader mission of institutional responsibility, environmental care, and academic excellence.
The meeting was attended by key officers, including Eng. Faiz Ahmed Shaikh, Nazeer Mangnejo, Dr. Faheem Jatoi, Aijaz Ali Siyal, Ali Ahmed Kandhar, Bida Phulphoto, Imran Sommro, Waseem Kalhoro, and others.
