The Vice Chancellor of Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU), Khairpur Mir’s, Meritorious Professor Dr. Yousuf Khushk, has called for enhanced support and innovative strategies to promote Pakistan’s dates industry on the international stage.
Speaking at a meeting held at the university, Dr. Khushk emphasized the sector’s vast potential, noting that with the right marketing approach, it could significantly boost foreign exchange earnings and create employment opportunities.
Dr. Khushk highlighted the crucial role that different university departments, particularly Business, Commerce, Media, and Computer Science, could play in elevating the industry.
He suggested leveraging digital marketing platforms, social media campaigns, and dedicated websites to expand the global reach of Pakistani dates. Additionally, he proposed creating documentaries and promotional videos through student projects to showcase the quality and demand for the product worldwide.
To ensure practical implementation, the Vice Chancellor announced plans to collaborate with 10 leading dates businessmen, facilitating partnerships between industry and academia. He also stressed the importance of student internships, enabling young talent to gain hands-on experience while providing businesses with skilled manpower. Furthermore, Dr. Khushk urged exploring alternative sales methods, innovative packaging, and bio-product development to diversify market offerings.
Faculty members at the meeting praised the Vice Chancellor’s vision, acknowledging that such initiatives would not only strengthen the dates industry but also contribute to national economic growth. By combining academic expertise with industry needs, SALU aims to position Pakistan as a key player in the global dates market.
