Transparency International Pakistan, in collaboration with Bhitai Social Watch and Advocacy (BSWA) and Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU) Khairpur, organized a significant Capacity Building Workshop for Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and Women-Based Organizations (WBOs) on the theme “Social Accountability Tools for Good Governance.” The event was held on June 26, 2025, at the Students Society Centre, SALU.
Meritorious Professor Dr. Yousuf Khushk, Vice Chancellor of SALU, presided over the concluding session and emphasized that social accountability is central to strengthening democratic values and service delivery. He praised Transparency International Pakistan for its commitment to combating corruption and promoting transparent governance across the country.
“This power of accountability,” Dr. Khushk stated, “lies not only with Parliament or bureaucracy but with an informed citizenry, proactive civil society, dedicated women-based organizations, and an engaged youth.” He lauded the role of CSOs and WBOs as catalysts of social reform and recognized their importance in policy monitoring and community development.
The Vice Chancellor outlined four key priorities for improving governance in Khairpur:
Strengthening local government accountability, Enhancing public service monitoring, particularly in health, education, and water supply. Promoting digital tools for community feedback and transparency Ensuring inclusive participation of women and youth in decision-making processes.
Deputy Commissioner Khairpur, Fayaz Rahujo, also addressed the workshop and underscored the need for institutional transparency, rule of law, and merit-based appointments. He stated, “There must be accountability; only then will things improve,” adding that reforms must start at the top and trickle down.
He voiced concern over changing societal values, where wealth is too often mistaken for worth, and stressed the importance of restoring integrity, qualification, and ethical conduct as core principles of public service.
Khadim Hussain Mirani, Executive Director of BSWA, played a central role as local host and community liaison. His commitment to civic advocacy and social justice made this collaboration possible, helping translate Transparency International’s vision into effective grassroots engagement.
The event saw the participation of Professor Dr. Taj Lashari, Dr. Ali Raza Lashari, Sonia Arain, Saad Aalam, Imran Sommro, and Waseem Kalhoro, along with numerous civil society members, youth leaders, and women representatives.
The workshop concluded with certificate distribution, affirming a shared commitment to ethical governance, citizen empowerment, and institutional accountability.
