Introduction

The Department of Computer Science was established as a full-fledged Department in 1999 with the goal to offer high quality degree programs that ensure that students will be able to integrate theory and practice, recognize the importance of abstraction and appreciate the value of efficient design created to meet clearly developed requirements. The Department intends to prepare students for lifelong learning as they undertake professional careers in computing.

Objectives

  • Substantial understanding of the fundamentals of Computer Science.
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical concepts both orally and in writing.
  • Appropriate, occasional innovation of our curriculum so it incorporates ever-changing Computer Science technology.
  • An ability to apply knowledge of computing and mathematics appropriate to the discipline.
  • An ability to analyze a problem, and identify and define the computing requirements appropriate to its solution.
  • An ability to design, implement and evaluate a computer-based system, process, component, or program to meet desired needs.
  • An ability to function effectively on teams to accomplish a common goal.
  • An understanding of professional, ethical, legal, security, and social issues and responsibilities.
  • An ability to analyze the local and global impact of computing on individuals, organizations and society.
  • Recognition of the need for, and an ability to engage in, continuing professional development.
  • An ability to use current techniques, skills, and tools necessary for computing practices.

Vision

The Department of Computer Science was founded with the vision that how Computer Science & Information Technology would fit into the unique spirit of Shah Abdul Latif University, an institution oriented to an unusual degree around undergraduate education and close interdepartmental collaboration. The Department has always had close ties to the departments of Physical Sciences/Natural Sciences of the University, but has increasingly experienced collaborations with all other disciplines/faculties important to the University. It is through these collaborations that the importance of Computer Science in a broader sense is best appreciated.

Mission

“The Department of Computer Science endeavors for excellence in creating, applying, and imparting knowledge in Computer Science and Information Technology through comprehensive educational programs, research, propagation through scholarly publications, and service to professional societies, the community, the state, and the nation”.
