Post-harvest & Processing Division

Advanced and extensive research work on Post-harvest and Processing of Dates is the real need of the day in Pakistan. Even though Pakistan is a major dates producing country but product is not getting the real value in International Market. Because, Pakistani Dates quality could not match with International requirements of sanitary and phyto-sanitary (SPS) measures. This section is crucially working to tackle all the above problems. One Scholar has got Ph.D degree on Post-harvest and Processing of Dates and three Scholars are registered in M.Phil working on “Accelerated Ripening of Aseel Dates by Artificial Means”, “Optimization of the dates drying protocol in Solar Dehydrator” and “Setting Standards of dates in Sindh”.

A study has been conducted to establish a model drying plant at Khairpur; several visits have been made to the existing drying plants of dates at Khairpur and working for their optimization. The purpose is to support the growers to protect the crop from monsoon rains and reduce the required time from 7 to 3 days. A Training project on using the solar dehydrators of USAID’s Firms has been started since last year and various training programs conducted by DPRI team in this regard.
