Introduction
Sindh Green Environmental Forum (SGEF) in collaboration with Shah Abdul Latif University Khairpur, Sindh, Pakistan has organized a two day international conference at Shah Abdul Latif University Khairpur, to address the issues related to environmental pollution in sindh, causes, effects and remedies. SGEF is a non-governmental and not-for-profit organization of Sindhi scientists and intellectuals working in the country and abroad.
Environmental issues in Sindh are of diverse and complex in nature, which to date have received either little or no attention. Within this context the conference will lay foundation of a concerted effort of the people who feel deeply concerned about environmental issues in Pakistan and more particularly in Sindh.
Environmental pollution and contamination are affecting almost every single soul living there. Contaminated water and polluted food intake are playing havoc with the health and life of people of country. This has resulted in hundred thousands of fatalities, mega scale health problems, loss of resources worth billions of dollars which are not properly quantified and accounted for by the researchers and academicians yet.
Industrial activities taking place in Sindh may reflect 20th century Phenomenon, however, individual and collective behavior towards socio-environmental issues reflect the behavior of primitive societies in Europe. People in general and academics and scientists in particular in our part of the world are more or less indifferent towards the quality of life, the safety of resources, the future of our planet and future generations.
