Karachi: The Sindh Higher Education Commission (Sindh HEC) has launched a week-long training program at the National Institute of Public Administration (NIPA), Karachi, starting from November 3. The initiative aims to strengthen the leadership, administrative, and academic management skills of newly appointed Vice Chancellors and senior faculty members identified by Sindh HEC as “Future Leaders.” These Future Leaders are senior professors who successfully appeared before the Search Committees for the position of Vice Chancellor, were shortlisted among the top candidates forwarded to the Chief Minister of Sindh, and are considered potential future university heads.
The opening ceremony of the training program was graced by Mr. Moinuddin Siddiqui, Secretary, Sindh Higher Education Commission, as the chief guest. In his remarks, Mr. Siddiqui highlighted that Sindh HEC has been undertaking several initiatives to strengthen the higher education sector in the province. He emphasized that through a series of training programs, Sindh HEC aims to bring improvement at every level of university operations—whether it involves the professional development of Vice Chancellors, Registrars, Controllers of Examinations, faculty members, or support staff. He shared that Sindh HEC is committed to enhancing the overall quality of higher education by offering faculty research support funds and financial assistance for both national and international postdoctoral programs.
Speaking about the ongoing training program, Mr. Siddiqui said that the primary objective of this initiative is to enhance the administrative, financial, and procurement-related understanding of university leaders, enabling them to make informed and independent decisions rather than relying on external advice. He expressed confidence that the participants would gain valuable insights from the sessions and apply them to improve governance and institutional performance within their respective universities.
The training sessions are being conducted by eminent educationists, experienced bureaucrats, and field experts. The week-long program covers essential areas such as developing KPIs for higher education institutions, strategic planning and management, audit resolution, university development schemes, innovative HR practices, effective procurement management under SPPRA rules, research commercialization, and strengthening academia-industry linkages. Participants are also being trained on accreditation and international ranking strategies, leadership excellence, financial sustainability, automation and digitization, and the role of statutory bodies in governance.
This program is designed not only to equip newly appointed Vice Chancellors with modern tools of management and leadership but also to prepare a cadre of senior academics capable of leading universities in the future. The program will conclude with a certificate distribution ceremony, and the insights shared by experts will help Sindh HEC refine its future policies aimed at improving quality education, research productivity, and institutional governance across Sindh’s higher education sector.
