In a vibrant celebration of brotherhood and cultural harmony, Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU) Khairpur, in collaboration with Pak-Turk Maarif International School Khairpur, organized a one-day seminar titled “A Century of the Turkish Republic: Strengthening the Bonds of Friendship and Peace.”
The event marked the 102nd anniversary of the founding of the modern Republic of Türkiye and showcased the enduring friendship between Pakistan and Türkiye.
The celebration began with the hoisting of the national flags of Pakistan and Türkiye at the Students Societies Center (SSC), symbolizing unity, respect, and shared ideals. The flag ceremony was followed by a photography exhibition curated by Mr. Elan Ali Tipu, featuring an impressive visual journey through Turkish heritage, art, and architecture — including a special display on the Hagia Sophia and the spiritual landscape of Turkish mosques and culture.
The event was formally inaugurated by Vice Chancellor, Meritorious Professor Dr. Muhammad Yousuf Khushk, who praised the occasion as a true reflection of “two nations, one spirit.”
Drawing parallels between the Pakistani and Turkish national anthems, he said both are “songs of freedom, faith, and people’s power.” Dr. Khushk commended Türkiye’s leadership in the Muslim world and reaffirmed SALU’s commitment to expanding educational and cultural collaborations through student exchange, research cooperation, and joint programs.
Adding to the cultural festivity, students of Pak-Turk Maarif School Khairpur presented tableaux, short dramas, and musical performances highlighting the Turkish Republic’s century-long struggle for independence. The Department of English, SALU, also presented a tableau intertwining the philosophies of Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai, Maulana Rumi, and Allama Iqbal, symbolizing the shared literary and spiritual heritage of Pakistan and Türkiye.
A documentary on Turkish art, education, and technological advancement was screened and received warm applause from the audience.
Guest of Honour, Professor Dr. Nusrat Shah, Vice Chancellor, Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical University (SMBBMU), Larkana, appreciated the initiative, calling it “a beautiful and meaningful celebration that deepened students’ understanding of Turkish history and culture.”
Dignitaries including Professor Zahid Ali Channar, Chairman, Board of Intermediate & Secondary Education Sukkur, and Mr. Khalid Mahar, Chairman, BISE Larkana, highlighted the deep-rooted friendship between Pakistan and Türkiye, built on shared Sufi and spiritual traditions.
Mr. Mehmed Kashkin, Director, Pak-Turk Maarif Foundation Schools & Colleges, expressed heartfelt gratitude, saying:
“I have never celebrated the Republic Day of Türkiye so beautifully before. Together with SALU, we truly felt that we are two countries but one nation.”
Mr. Mehmed Emin, Assistant Director, and Mr. Bin Yamin, Principal, Pak-Turk Maarif Schools & Colleges, also participated in the event.
The seminar was part of a week-long series of activities organized by SALU in celebration of Pakistan–Türkiye Friendship Week, reaffirming the university’s role as a bridge of learning and culture between the two brotherly nations.
The proceedings were conducted by Madam Paras Khaskheli, while Dr. Ali Raza Lashari served as the event coordinator.
