25th Senate of SALU Khairpur Reconvenes, Marking a New Era of Governance and Growth

The 25th Senate Meeting of Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU), Khairpur was held today at the university’s Benazir Chair Hall, marking a historic milestone in the restoration of structured governance, academic excellence, and financial discipline at the institution.
The meeting was presided over by Vice Chancellor, Meritorious Professor Dr. Muhammad Yousuf Khushk, and attended by distinguished members from academia, administration, and provincial departments.
Among the participants were Mr. Muhammad Abbas Baloch, Secretary, Universities & Boards Department, Government of Sindh (who joined online); Professor Dr. Nusrat Shah, Vice Chancellor, Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical University (SMBBMU), Larkana; and Professor Dr. Syed Ahmed Hussain Shah, representative of the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Islamabad.
Also present were Mr. Abdul Hameed, representative of the Secretary Education & Literacy Department, Government of Sindh; Professor Zahid Ali Channar, Chairman BISE Sukkur; Mr. Khalid Mahar, Chairman BISE Larkana; Ms. Latifan Khatoon Dharejo, Mr. Mukhtiar Malik, and other esteemed Senate members.
Speaking at the occasion, Mr. Muhammad Abbas Baloch, Secretary, Universities & Boards Department, pledged the provincial government’s full support to the university.
“We will provide all kinds of support to the university,”
he stated, commending Vice Chancellor Dr. Khushk’s efforts and the institution’s visible progress under his leadership.
Similarly, Professor Dr. Nusrat Shah, Vice Chancellor SMBBMU, praised SALU’s recent progress, saying:
“It is amazing how the university has made progress under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Dr. Khushk. We will extend all possible help as a stakeholder.”
In his presidential address, Vice Chancellor Meritorious Professor Dr. Muhammad Yousuf Khushk expressed his satisfaction over the reconvening of the Senate and termed it a milestone toward institutional stability and transparent decision-making. He emphasized that the regular meetings of the Senate, Syndicate, and Academic Council reflect the revival of the university’s statutory governance system.
Dr. Khushk elaborated on the major reforms implemented during his tenure — including the restoration of financial management systems, clearing of long-pending commutation and pension dues through a special government grant, and introduction of merit-based administrative and academic procedures.
Highlighting SALU’s academic achievements, he shared that the faculty produced over 590 publications in HEC-recognized journals during 2024–25 — a record in the university’s history. He also mentioned that academic programs have been aligned with HEC’s Undergraduate Education Policy, ensuring quality and modern relevance.
Dr. Khushk reaffirmed the university’s commitment to community-oriented research and mentioned the revival of the Date Palm Research Institute, which now connects research with real-world development. He announced that the 700-acre Shadi Shaheed land project for sustainable agriculture is being developed through scientific soil and water testing, aiming to turn barren land into productive farmland.
He also highlighted SALU’s international collaborations and Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) signed with universities in Turkey, Iran, Spain, and the United States, along with partnerships with USAID, Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (Germany), and the International Rescue Committee (EU-funded). At the national level, SALU has built productive collaborations with Khushhali Bank, Bhittai Social Welfare Association, and the Vision for Education Foundation Pakistan to promote entrepreneurship, internships, and student welfare.
Looking ahead, Dr. Khushk presented a vision focused on financial sustainability, digital transformation, and global recognition. He announced the university’s plan to establish research centers in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, promote joint international degree programs, and develop renewable energy and endowment initiatives to ensure long-term financial stability.
The Senate members unanimously approved the minutes of the previous meeting of Sanate, Budget of the year and the Annual Report as recomended by the Syndicate , expressing full confidence in the Vice Chancellor’s leadership and appreciating his continuous efforts to steer the university toward progress, transparency, and growth.
Those present included Pro-Vice Chancellors — Professor Dr. Ameer Ali Khuhro, Professor Dr. Maqsood Zia, and Professor Dr. Wahid Bux Jatoi — along with the Deans: Professor Dr. Ghulam Mustafa Mashori, Professor Dr. Mushtaque Ali Jakhrani, Professor Dr. Noor Ahmed Shaikh, Professor Dr. Minhoon Khan Laghari, and Professor Dr. Naveed Ahmed Shaikh, as well as other Senate members representing the university and affiliated colleges.
