The English institute at Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU) Khairpur organized a vibrant seminar and cultural ceremony to celebrate Turkish Republic Day, painting a vivid picture of the profound literary and spiritual ties that bind Pakistan and Turkey. The event served as a powerful reaffirmation of the fraternal bond between the two nations, described by speakers as an unbreakable connection of "one nation, two countries."
The campus was buzzing with intellectual and artistic energy as students from the English Department presented elaborate tableaus and performances dedicated to iconic poets, including Turkey's Rumi and Pakistan's Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai, Sachal Sarmast, and Allama Iqbal, seamlessly weaving a narrative of shared heritage and friendship.
The Chief Guest, Vice Chancellor Meritorious Professor Dr. Yousuf Khushk, set a powerful tone, highlighting Turkey's steadfast support during pivotal moments in Pakistan's history. "Turkey is a brotherly country; whenever we have faced issues, they extended their support," he stated. "During the war, they stood with us and even celebrated our success."
Professor Khushk traced the deep cultural and spiritual connections, noting, "Moulana Rumi is the Murshid (spiritual guide) of Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai." He praised the timeless poetry of Rumi, Bhitai, and Sachal, emphasizing that Sachal’s message that "Truth is love" reflects a universal desire to connect poetry with humanity.
The seminar featured a comprehensive lecture by Professor Dr Rubina and Professor Ibrahim Ali Khokhar, who delved into the poetic harmony between the works of Rumi and Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai, illuminating the shared Sufi ethos that transcends geographical boundaries.
The event commenced with a welcome address by Professor Dr. Zulfiqar Ali Shah, while a vote of thanks was presented by Hira Jatoi. Madam Paras coordinated the successful event.
The ceremony was graced by the presence of Dean of the Faculty of Language and Arts, Professor Dr. Ghulam Mustafa Mashori, Professor Dr. Agha Nadia, Madam Maria Issani, and a large number of students and faculty from the Urdu, Sindhi, and English departments.
The celebrations culminated in a rally, the inauguration of a photography exhibition, and a cake-cutting ceremony to honor Turkish Republic Day, symbolizing the sweet and enduring partnership between the two nations.
