In a significant move to strengthen the research ecosystem and enhance faculty competitiveness in national and international funding programs, the Office of Research, Innovation & Commercialization (ORIC) at Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU), Khairpur, organized a high-impact faculty development workshop titled “How to Write Winning Grant Proposals 2025.”
The event was presided over by the Vice Chancellor, Meritorious Professor Dr. Yousuf Khushk, who, in his inaugural address, emphasized that “Research is the hallmark of any university and the foundation of national progress. Developed nations have built their success on research, knowledge, and innovation.”
Dr. Khushk presented a comprehensive seven-point framework for developing successful research proposals. He stressed that projects addressing national and societal priorities — such as industry, environment, agriculture, and public welfare — are prioritized by funding agencies. He urged faculty members to define clear objectives, demonstrate the real-world impact of their work, and build collaborative teams including young and female researchers.
The Vice Chancellor also highlighted the importance of meticulous planning, realistic budgeting, and international collaboration to strengthen proposal competitiveness. He advised faculty to secure institutional approvals through ORIC, QEC, and Finance Sections before submission, affirming that “Research is not merely a process of producing results — it is a test of truth, ethics, and scholarly character.”
Following the Vice Chancellor’s remarks, Dr. Junaid Shaikh, the guest speaker, delivered an extensive and insightful session. Dr. Shaikh is an HEC-approved National Resource Person, British Council-certified research grants specialist, CEO of Knowledge360, and Associate Professor at Mohammad Ali Jinnah University, Karachi.
He shared practical techniques for crafting competitive proposals for HEC, NRPU, and international funding agencies, guiding participants through the steps of problem identification, narrative development, budgeting, and proposal submission. His presentation was rich with practical examples and interactive engagement, making it especially valuable for young researchers.
Mr. Munwar Ali Ganghro, Provincial Head of the Bureau of Statistics, also spoke on the importance of credible data and evidence-based research for sustainable policy development.
Dr. Raffaqat Arain, Focal Person ORIC, shared that the workshop aimed to enhance the faculty’s capacity in grant proposal writing and prepare them for upcoming research schemes of HEC, PSF, and other funding institutions.
The workshop was attended by a large number of faculty members, including Dean Faculty of Management Sciences Prof. Dr. Minhoon Khan Laghari, Prof. Dr. Irum Rani, Prof. Dr. Samina Rajpar, Prof. Dr. Javed Ahmed Mahar, Dr. Safadar Ujjan, Dr. Shaista Pathan, Dr. Abdul Rahman Phull, Dr. Shazia Qamar, Dr. Shazia Solangi, and others.
The event reaffirmed SALU’s and ORIC’s commitment to fostering a strong research culture, empowering faculty to compete successfully for national and international grants, and contribute to sustainable knowledge creation and innovation.
