In a significant step towards promoting agricultural research, modern farming practices, and academic collaboration, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Date Palm Research Institute (DPRI), Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU), Khairpur, and Khairpur College of Agriculture Engineering and Technology (KCAET).
The MoU aims to strengthen cooperation between the two institutions in the areas of agriculture, environmental studies, water management, modern farming practices, research, and innovation.
Under the MoU, faculty members, researchers, and students from both institutions will participate in joint research projects, seminars, workshops, training programmes, and other academic and research activities.
Speaking on the occasion, Meritorious Professor Dr. Yousuf Khushk, Vice Chancellor, Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur, emphasized that the adoption of modern research and scientific approaches in the agricultural sector is a critical need of the time.
“This collaboration will provide students and researchers with valuable practical exposure to agriculture and create opportunities to benefit from modern knowledge and technology in addressing the agricultural challenges of Sindh,” he said.
Dr. Khushk further stated that agriculture plays a vital role in Sindh’s economy and employment, making it essential to strengthen linkages among universities, research institutions, agricultural experts, and other stakeholders. He expressed confidence that the collaboration between the two institutions would open new avenues for agricultural research, innovation, and academic cooperation.
Professor Dr. Syed Ali Raza Shah, Principal, Khairpur College of Agriculture Engineering and Technology, expressed optimism that the MoU would prove highly beneficial for the students, researchers, and faculty members of both institutions.
Highlighting ongoing innovative research, he said that the institution is also exploring ways to utilize kitchen wastewater for cultivating vegetables and other plants, with a focus on sustainable use of available water resources.
Representatives of both institutions signed the MoU and reaffirmed their commitment to sustained collaboration for agricultural development, promotion of research and innovation, technical training of students, and exchange of modern agricultural knowledge and technology.
The signing ceremony was attended by Dean Faculty of Natural Science Professor Dr. Mushtaq Ali Jakhrani, Professor Dr. Muzaffar Ali Sarohi, Professor Dr. Mumtaz Ali Sand, Dr. Shaista Pathan, Dr. Amir Ahmed Mallah, Engineer Ajeet Kumar, Dr. Faheem Ahmed Jatoi, and others.
