Shah Latif University Holds Seminar and Solidarity Rally to Observe Youm-e-Istehsal-e-Kashmir

Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU), Khairpur, observed Youm-e-Istehsal-e-Kashmir by organizing a seminar followed by a solidarity rally to express unwavering solidarity with the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). The programme, organized by the Students’ Societies Centre, was attended by faculty members, officers, and a large number of students.
Addressing the seminar, Vice Chancellor Meritorious Professor Dr. Yousuf Khushk said that Youm-e-Istehsal-e-Kashmir is observed every year to remind the world of the events of August 5, 2019, when India revoked Articles 370 and 35A, abolished the special constitutional status of Jammu and Kashmir, and altered the region’s constitutional and administrative status. He said Pakistan’s position is that these unilateral actions are contrary to international law and the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions and cannot change the internationally recognized disputed status of Jammu and Kashmir.
Dr. Khushk stated that Kashmir occupies a central place in Pakistan’s history, geography, and national consciousness. He emphasized that sustainable peace in South Asia depends upon a peaceful and just resolution of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the aspirations of the Kashmiri people and the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions. He urged students and young scholars to study the Kashmir issue with an informed perspective, engage in research and academic dialogue, and use responsible digital platforms to raise global awareness about the plight of the Kashmiri people. He added that universities have a vital responsibility to promote peace, justice, respect for human rights, and informed public discourse.
Speaking on the occasion, Professor Dr. Inayatullah Bhatti highlighted the significance of Youm-e-Istehsal-e-Kashmir and called upon the United Nations and the international community to ensure the protection of the fundamental rights of the Kashmiri people and the implementation of the relevant UN Security Council resolutions.
Coordinator, Students’ Societies Centre, Dr. Ali Raza Lashari, said that universities have a responsibility to educate young people about important national and international issues through seminars, dialogue, and constructive academic activities. He reaffirmed the University’s commitment to promoting awareness of the Kashmir cause among students.
Advisor Students’ Affairs, Mr. Farhan Latif Memon, also addressed the gathering and emphasized the role of youth in promoting peace, justice, human rights, and responsible civic engagement through education, research, and informed dialogue.
Students from different academic departments also expressed their views, reaffirming solidarity with the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) and supporting their right to self-determination in accordance with the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions.
A one-minute silence was observed in memory of the martyrs of Kashmir and all those who had lost their lives in the conflict.
Following the seminar, participants took out a solidarity rally, carrying the flags of Pakistan and Kashmir along with banners and placards highlighting the Kashmir issue and expressing support for the Kashmiri people. A resolution adopted on the occasion urged the United Nations and the international community to play an effective role in ensuring a peaceful settlement of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
The Vice Chancellor appreciated the efforts of the organizers, particularly Dr. Ali Raza Lashari, Professor Dr. Inayatullah Bhatti, Mr. Farhan Latif Memon, and the Students’ Societies Centre team for successfully organizing the event.
Among those present were Dr. Sahib Oad, Salman Shar, faculty members, officers, and a large number of students.
