KHAIRPUR: Shah Abdul Latif University has approved the campus-wide implementation of the Google for Education program along with a set of austerity measures, following a high-level meeting chaired by Vice Chancellor Yousuf Khushk.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor Dr. Yousuf Khushk emphasized the urgency of digital transformation to improve institutional performance and efficiency. He noted that the Sindh government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Google, and universities must now align their academic and administrative systems with modern digital platforms. “If we want to progress, we must learn and adapt. All generations need to be brought onto digital tools. Without this transition, we cannot move forward,” he said.
He further highlighted that a few faculty members have already received training in artificial intelligence tools and stressed the need to extend similar training to both teachers and students. “Teaching and learning have become significantly easier, and AI is reshaping the education landscape,” he added.
Prof Dr Noor Ahmed Shaikh, Dean of the Faculty of Physical Sciences, explained that once students and faculty are onboarded into the Google system, their engagement with digital tools can be effectively monitored. He noted that such data would contribute to improving the university’s performance indicators and recognition. “Students and teachers will be issued official email IDs under the salu.edu.pk domain, enabling access to the full suite of Google services,” he said, adding that the initiative would gradually streamline and replace standalone digital tools currently in use.
In view of the prevailing financial challenges, the meeting also approved a series of austerity measures. A revised hybrid working model has been introduced under which academic activities will be conducted on campus from Monday to Thursday, while Fridays will be designated for remote work, except for essential staff.
This policy will apply to the main campus as well as sub-campuses in Ghotki and Shahdadkot, and the Model School Khairpur. However, the competent authority retains the discretion to call staff on Fridays in case of urgent requirements.
The meeting was attended by Pro-Vice Chancellors Prof Dr Wahid Bux Jatoi, Prof Dr Maqsood Zia, along with Deans, Prof Dr Mushtaq Jakhrani , Dr Minhoon Khan Laghari, Dr Liaquat Ali Chandio. including all HoDs and HoIs and Key administrative officials, including Registrar Muhammad Hassan Halepoto, Controller of Examinations Saifuddin Pathan, and Deputy Controller Tahir Khaskheli, were also present.
