Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU), Khairpur Mir's convened a high-level meeting on Monday to review the financial implications of rising petroleum prices and increasing operational costs on the university’s existing budget. The meeting was presided over by the Vice Chancellor, Meritorious Professor Dr. Yousuf Khushk, and held at the Vice Chancellor’s Secretariat.
Addressing the meeting, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Yousuf Khushk highlighted the seriousness of the evolving global economic situation and its potential impact on country and institutional finances. Referring to international developments affecting fuel markets, he noted that rising petroleum prices and increasing operational expenditures are placing additional pressure on the university’s budget.
In response to the emerging situation, the Vice Chancellor informed the participants that the university administration has prepared a three-layer “ABC Plan” aimed at ensuring that Shah Abdul Latif University continues to function within its existing budget while maintaining the continuity of academic activities.
Dr. Khushk emphasized that prudent financial management and responsible use of resources are essential in the current circumstances. He reiterated that despite financial constraints, the university administration remains fully committed to protecting the academic interests of students and ensuring uninterrupted teaching and learning.
The meeting was attended by Pro-Vice Chancellors Professor Dr. Ameer Ali Khuhro, Professor Dr. Maqsood Zia, and Professor Dr. Wahid Bux Jatoi; Deans Professor Dr. Mushtaque Ali Jakhrani, Professor Dr. Noor Ahmed Shaikh, Professor Dr. Ghulam Mustafa Mashori, Professor Dr. Minhoon Khan Laghari, and Professor Dr. Liaquat Ali Chandio; faculty members Dr. Javed Ujjan, Professor Dr. Abdul Sami Shaikh, Professor Dr. Masiullah Jatoi, Professor Dr. Khalida Mahar, Dr. Sahib Oad, and Professor Sarfraz Korejo.
Among the administrative officers present were Registrar Muhammad Hassan Halepoto, Director Finance Kazi Nizamuddin, Dr. Zulfiqar Ali Shaikh, Muhammad Murad Peerzada, Munir Ahmed Rashidi, and other sectional heads of the university.
After detailed deliberations, the meeting approved several immediate measures aimed at rationalizing operational expenditures and conserving energy while ensuring academic continuity. The key decisions include:
• Reduction in POL Allocation: A 24 percent reduction in petrol allocation for light vehicles with immediate effect.
• Energy Conservation: Air conditioners will not be used in offices, and the use of lights will be kept to the minimum necessary to conserve electricity.
• Examinations and Classes: The ongoing midterm examinations and tests will continue to be conducted physically as scheduled up to 13 March. After that, classes of the morning shift will be conducted online until the end of Ramzan Sharif.
The meeting resolved to closely monitor the evolving financial situation and to take further administrative measures if required. The purpose of these steps is to ensure prudent financial management while safeguarding the academic activities and educational commitments of the university.
