Two PhD Candidates Successfully Defend Dissertations at SALU Khairpur

Two PhD scholars presented their research in open defense seminars held at Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU), Khairpur today. The defenses were conducted in the Department of Botany and the Institute of Microbiology, marking a significant academic milestone for the scholars and the university.
Presiding over the event, Vice Chancellor Meritorious Professor Dr. Yousuf Khushk commended the depth and relevance of the research. He highlighted that the chosen topics are not only intriguing reflections of life but also hold substantial importance for regional food security, medicine, and cultural diversity. Dr. Khushk noted that such work provides valuable insights for researchers and policymakers. He encouraged the scholars to publish papers from their theses and extended congratulations to them, their supervisors, and the supporting faculty for their dedication.
The first scholar, Fiaz Hussain from the Department of Microbiology, defended his research titled “Molecular Characterization of Gut Bacterial Community Isolated from Broiler and Domestic Chicken and Their Role in Chicken Weight Gain.” His work was supervised by Prof. Dr. Abdul Hussain Shar, with co-supervision from Dr. Javed Ahmed Ujan.
The second defense was presented by Shoukat Ali of the Department of Botany. His dissertation, “Systematic Studies of Wild Edible Plants Diversity and Their Utilization in Sukkur Division,” involved data collection from 145 respondents. His supervisor was Dr. Muzafar H. Sirohi, with co-supervision from Prof. Dr. Mushtaq Ahmad of Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad.
Dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences, Professor Dr. Mushtaque Ali Jakhrani, praised both scholars for their excellent presentations and substantial research work. Chairman of the Botany Department, Dr. Mumtaz Saand, also expressed his satisfaction with the scholarly output.
A panel of experts, after thorough evaluation, confirmed that the research met the rigorous standards for a PhD, deeming the work comprehensive and the presentations commendable. They formally recommended the award of the doctoral degrees.
The proceedings were conducted by Assistant Director PGS, Islam Gul Mahar.
The event was attended by several notable academics, including Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Wahid Bux Jatoi, Professor Dr. Barkat Bhayo, Dr. Ameer Mallah, Dr. Munir Ahmed Qazi, Dr. Sham Lal, Dr Sahib Oad and others.
