A vibrant orientation sessions were held at the Benazir Chair and Faculty of Management Sciences of Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU), Khairpur, organized by the Faculty of Arts and Languages and Faculty of Management Sciences for its newly admitted students respectively.
The event saw the participation of senior university faculty members, officials
and new students, marking a formal introduction to academic life.
Meritorious Professor Dr. Yousuf Khushk, Vice Chancellor of SALU, graced the occasion as the chief guest. He welcomed the students, shared his vision for the university, and highlighted the various academic and extracurricular facilities available to them. Dr. Khushk emphasized that the orientation aimed to familiarize students with the university community and foster awareness.
In his address, VC Dr. Yousuf Khushk also congratulated the students on securing admission, noting that only 22% of youth reach university-level education in the country. He highlighted SALU’s history, established in 1976 under the University of Sindh and becoming a full-fledged university in 1987, now the third largest in Sindh.
Dr. Khushk stated that the university’s role extends beyond curriculum delivery to include extracurricular development, with 45 active student societies spanning media, drama, and culture. He encouraged students to engage with these societies and seek out scholarship opportunities, mentioning that scholarships worth 13 crore rupees have already been distributed.
Citing the example of Thomas Edison, he motivated students to stay positive and proactive. He announced an upcoming Student Week, to be led by students themselves, and urged the newcomers to focus on skill development, internships, and additional courses to enhance their employability. “You have four years to prepare yourselves for better opportunities and to contribute to society and the country,” he said.
VC Dr. Khushk, addressing commerce students, highlighted the field’s importance in national economic ranking. He shared initiatives like the university’s committee for date exports, which aims to create market linkages and internship opportunities. He urged students to avoid distractions, focus on education, and utilize the university’s growing network.
Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Languages, Professor Dr. Ghulam Mustafa Mashori, also addressed the students, and he described the university as their “second home,” assuring them that deans, heads of departments, and teachers would support them like family. He encouraged students to approach their HODs and teachers for any guidance or problem-solving, stressing the importance of adapting to a digital world and learning multiple languages.
Dean of Management Sciences, Professor Dr. Minhoon Khan Laghari, welcomed new students of IBA and Economics, appreciating the VC’s student-centric approach. Students were assured of a supportive environment to pursue their dreams and become the future leaders of Pakistan.
Heads of various departments within the Faculties also addressed the gathering. Chairman of the English Department, Professor Dr. Zulfiqar Ali Shah, and Chairman of the Sindhi Department, Dr. Allah Wasayo Sommro, outlined departmental initiatives, including student-led magazines to nurture creativity and critical thinking.
Chairman of the Urdu Department, Dr. Tariq Bin Umar also spoke on the occasion.
At the Institute of Commerce, Director Professor Dr. Akhtiar Ali Ghumro outlined the department’s facilities and affordable fee structure, highlighting the qualified faculty. Dr. Amir Hussain Shar emphasized training students to become capable contributors to society.
Director of IBA, Professor Dr. Masiullah Jatoi, gave a detailed presentation on grading systems, university policies, and HEC guidelines.
A separate orientation was also held at the Department of Public Administration. Professor Dr. Nazar Hussain Phulpoto, Professor Dr. Sajid Mirani also highlighted the achievements of department.
The proceedings were conducted by Professor Dr Saifullah Shaikh, Muhammad Ibrahim Khokhar, Dr Hira Shaikh and others.
Faculty members, including Professor Dr. Irfan Mirani, Professor Dr. Rahim Bux Soomro, Dr. Aashique Ali Lashari, Dr. Hira Rani Shaikh, and Dr. Sarmad Rahat,
Dr Rubina, Dr Sahib Oad, Paras Khaskheli, Hassan Shaikh, Shamaila Rubab were also present.
