In ceremonies marking the commencement of the new academic year, Vice Chancellor Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU) Khairpur Meritorious Professor Dr Yousuf Khushk across institutions welcomed incoming students with addresses outlining a vision of holistic education and pledging comprehensive support for their journey.
At a formal ceremonies across multiple faculties, the Vice Chancellor set an aspirational tone for the year, describing orientation as "a day of new hopes, new responsibilities, and new possibilities." In his keynote address, he emphasized that the institution is a dynamic space "where knowledge is not only taught but created, questioned, and refined." He urged students to look beyond academics to cultivate critical thinking, collaboration, and a commitment to societal service.
Redefining traditional measures of achievement, the Vice Chancellor stated, "success is not measured only by grades, but by character, curiosity, and contribution." He called for students to immerse themselves in the full spectrum of university life, including research, co-curricular activities, and community engagement, guided by discipline and ethical conduct.
Dr. Khushk connected education to national and personal dreams, assuring students of the administration's commitment to their success. He detailed substantial support mechanisms, announcing, "We have distributed scholarships worth over 13 crores. More initiatives, including 150 new scholarships, are forthcoming." He encouraged students to leverage the university's digital resources, skill-based courses, and over 45 student societies to enhance their employability.
"The basic aim is to make you mingle with other students. Your future is bright and connected to your skills," Dr. Khushk stated, urging active participation. The orientation included presentations from deans and faculty on academic expectations and facilities, reinforcing the message of a supportive community.
He pledged robust institutional support through scholarships, guidance systems, and grievance redressal mechanisms, they also placed the onus of growth on the students themselves.
Dr. Khushk reinforced this partnership, saying, "We are one family—the SALU family. The university will support you for a bright future."
He concluded with a hope that their university experience would mold them into "confident professionals and responsible citizens," ending his speech with a prayer for divine blessing.
The event featured presentations from deans and senior faculty, including Dean of Natural Sciences Professor Dr. Mushtaque Ali Jakhrani. A documentary showcasing the Department of Zoology's achievements was screened. Faculty members such as Professor Dr. Liaquat Ali Chandio, Professor Dr. Samina Rajpar, and Dr. Javed Ahmed Ujjan detailed departmental facilities, academic expectations, and the importance of maintaining the mandatory attendance requirement.
Professor Ishrat Mirani, Dr Shahida Ameer Chandio while welcoming students, highlighted that orientation marks the beginning of a journey toward realizing personal and parental dreams. Dr. Firdous Bhugti spoke on teacher education, and Ms. Shamaila Rubab from the Students Society Center outlined opportunities for internships and job placements.
The orientations concluded by setting a reflective and ambitious tone for the new academic year, with students assured of a supportive environment designed to foster both professional readiness and responsible citizenship.
