Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU), Khairpur, set a vibrant and celebratory tone for the All Pakistan Inter-University Badminton (Women) Championship 2025-26 by organizing a grand welcome dinner and musical program for participants from across the country.
The event, designed to honor the athletes and officials, saw enthusiastic participation from players representing more than 27 universities from all provinces of Pakistan. The guests enjoyed a festive evening of local cuisine and cultural music.
The ceremony featured addresses from several distinguished dignitaries who emphasized the importance of sports and education.
The event was graced by Mr. Muhammad Abbas Baloch, Secretary of Universities & Boards for the Government of Sindh, as the Chief Guest. Hailing from the region, Mr. Baloch highlighted Khairpur's historical significance as a hub of welfare and education.
"Khairpur was a welfare state where education was free, and you will find most persons here are educated," he stated. He encouraged the participants to explore the city's rich heritage, including the Faiz Mahal, the shrines of Sachal Sarmast and others.
Praising the current university administration, Mr. Baloch said, "After the arrival of the Vice Chancellor Meritorious Professor Dr Yousuf Khushk, many positive activities are happening here. SALU is the third-largest university in Sindh, and it is our responsibility to impart quality education. We fully support the VC and SALU." He also commended SSP Khairpur for maintaining law and order.
Mr. Moinuddin Siddiqui, Secretary of the Sindh Higher Education Commission (HEC), expressed his delight at being at SALU. He appreciated the Vice Chancellor's efforts in promoting quality education and a research culture.
"Sports give us the strength to face challenges and teach us how to cope. They help us to spend a healthy life," Mr. Siddiqui remarked, specifically noting the importance of physical activity for women. He inspired the students with a powerful message: "A dream is not what we see in sleep, but a dream doesn't let you sleep. Don't waste time; we should start our work from today, not tomorrow."
The host, Meritorious Professor Dr. Yousuf Khushk, Vice Chancellor of SALU, extended a warm welcome to all the guests, players, and officials. " This campus is more vibrant today because of you,” he told the participants who had travelled from far and wide.
He reflected on the values of the game, stating, "Badminton is a game of discipline, patience, and learning opportunities. Continue to play, as win or loss is nothing." Dr. Khushk credited the HEC for its support in organizing such national event and emphasized the need to "patronize players for national and international games."The Vice Chancellor also appreciated the Director Sports, his team, and the organizing committee for successfully arranging one of the best championships at SALU.
SSP Khairpur, Mr. Hassan Sardar Niazi, welcomed the students, noting that their presence brought back memories of his own youth. He advised the athletes to balance education and sports, stating, "If you carry education and sports together, it will change your life."
Mr. Raza Bhatti, former Vice Chancellor of Shaikh Ayaz University, Shikarpur, highlighted the unifying power of the event. "It is a message of unity that brings the nation together through education," he said, praising SALU VC and the HEC for encouraging extracurricular activities.
The evening concluded on a high note, reinforcing the championship's spirit of athletic excellence and camaraderie. The event successfully served as a platform to rally support for women's sports in Pakistan, celebrating the talent and dedication of female athletes from across the nation.
