The 2nd Shaheed Naseem Ahmed Kharal Drama Festival was successfully held at the Adeeb ul Hassan Rizvi Hall, Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU), Khairpur, in a vibrant celebration of Sindh's rich literary and dramatic heritage.
The event was organized by the Drama Artists Forum Khairpur in collaboration with the Department of Culture, Government of Sindh, the Yadgar Committee Naseem Kharal, and the Media & Communication Studies department of SALU, Khairpur.
The Chief Guest, Meritorious Professor Dr. Yousuf Khushk, Vice Chancellor of SALU, inaugurated the festival, which was dedicated to honoring the legacy of Shaheed Naseem Kharal, one of Sindh’s most renowned playwrights and cultural icons.
In his address, Vice Chancellor Dr. Yousuf Khushk emphasized the importance of such events. "This is a day of revival of our culture. The drama presented today tells a story of tolerance and harmony, themes that are central to our traditions," he stated. He shared his personal experiences related to the themes of the play and credited writers and artists for carrying forward Sindh's cultural narrative.
He praised the efforts of the teachers and students. They highlighted that the festival and a concurrent exhibition, which displayed customs, traditions, and societal challenges, provided a crucial platform for students to showcase their practical work.
The stories presented on stage, promoting tolerance and harmony, are unforgettable and will have a lasting impact. The participants were hailed as the future directors and practical leaders of Sindh's artistic community, marking the event as a significant step in the preservation and promotion of regional culture.
Dr. Ibrahim Kharal expressed his happiness at the successful organization of the event, which was held under the visionary directives of the Vice Chancellor. He encouraged all writers to come forward and contribute to literature and drama.
Qurban Mangi of the Yadgar Committee paid a rich tribute to the late Naseem Kharal, noting that he dedicated his life to society and education. "He was a genuine soul whose services have left a lasting impact. Such programs ensure that his legacy is remembered," Mangi said.
The consensus among the dignitaries was that literature and drama are powerful mediums for passing values from one generation to the next.
The festival featured live stage performances, dramatic presentations, and artistic displays. A highlight was the play "Ustad and Shagrid," presented by students of the Media & Communication Studies department, which was highly praised for its execution and message.
The ceremony included the prestigious "Majta Award," which was conferred upon Vice Chancellor Dr. Yousuf Khushk in recognition of their services. Awards were also presented to prominent figures including Dr. Ibrahim Kharal, Akbar Ali Shah, Controller of Radio Pakistan, and artists like Hubdar Jagirani and Jabar Gilal.
Directors and artists, including Abdul Karim Joyo, Moheeb Ali, Ateeq Ahmed Gilal, Aqib Abro, and child artists Ali Abbas and Ali Hassan, were acknowledged for their pivotal roles in the festival's success.
