A vibrant Cultural Day Celebration was held at Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU), Khairpur, organized by the Sindh TV Network in collaborations with students Cultural & Heritage Society SALU khairpur. The event celebrated Sindh’s rich cultural identity and encouraged students to reconnect with the province’s intellectual and artistic heritage.
The ceremony was presided over by Vice Chancellor Meritorious Professor Dr. Yousuf Khushk, while Deputy Commissioner Khairpur graced the event as the Chief Guest, and Sindh TV Bureau Chief Mr. Shaukat Noonari attended as the Guest of Honour.
Dr. Khushk delivered a thoughtful presidential address, drawing upon the progressive teachings of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai. He said Shah Latif is not only a poet but a spiritual guide who spoke profoundly about the dignity and freedom of women. “In his poetry, Shah Latif presents woman as a guide — a force leading society toward truth and humanity,” he remarked.
He added that no society can progress until its women are strong and empowered. Modern nations—from Europe and Canada to Japan and Scandinavia—prove that when women receive education, protection and equal opportunities, societies flourish. “The prosperity of the world is directly linked with women’s inclusion and leadership,” he said.
Deputy Commissioner Khairpur, Mr Fayaz Rahujo, who was given special prominence, addressed the participants and highlighted prevailing social barriers. “In our society, a woman is not independent,” he observed. “Cultural taboos often prevent women from living their own lives. Freedom means the ability to do what you believe in. Women must be allowed to take decisions and be fully included in every process of decision-making.”
Sindh TV Bureau Chief and SALU alumnus Shaukat Noonari expressed deep affection for his alma mater. “This university has shaped the future of thousands of students. SALU is where poor students turned their dreams into reality. Under VC Dr. Yousuf Khushk, the university is now moving in the right direction,” he noted. He stressed the urgent need to improve the difficult conditions faced by women in society.
The event proceedings were conducted by Dr. Ali Raza Lashari (Coordinator, Students Society Center), Syed Shamaila Rubab, and Khan Muhammad Solangi.
Other notable speakers included Mazahruddin Sheikh, Deputy Director NCHD, and Reza Wasan, Assistant Director NCHD.
The celebration concluded with an awards ceremony honoring students for their contributions. Awardees included Unza Shaikh, Nimra Aziz, Aftab, Sumiya Shaikh, Farooq Shaikh, and others.
Distinguished personalities including Professor Dr. Taj Muhammad Lashari, Raza Jafferi, Shafi Muhammad Khaskheli, and Ali Jefferi were also present on the occasion.
