The Prime Minister University Sports Olympiad kicked off with over 3,000 student athletes from across the country showcasing their potential and skills in various sports disciplines.
The four-day extravaganza has been organized by the Prime Minister's Youth Programme (PMYP) in collaboration with the Higher Education Commission (HEC).
The male and female athletes from public and private universities will compete for top honors in various disciplines including badminton, table tennis, hockey, volleyball, athletics, judo, swimming, handball, weightlifting and wrestling.
Badminton, Volleyball and Athletics teams of Shah Abdul Latif University Khairpur were present on the occasion of inauguration of the event.
The opening ceremony was a grand affair, graced by the Prime Minister, who underscored the importance of youth empowerment through sports. Key dignitaries included Rana Mashood Hassan, Chairman of the Prime Minister’s Youth Program, as the Chief Guest; Prof. Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, who served as the Guest of Honour; Deputy Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan; Federal Minister for Education Khalid Maqbool Siddiqi; Dr. Zia-ul-Qayoom, Executive Director of the Higher Education Commission (HEC); and Vice Chancellors of leading universities, including Shah Abdul Latif University, Quaid-i-Azam University, Punjab University, Fatima Jinnah Women University, Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University, and the University of Sargodha.
On the invitation of HEC, Vice Chancellor SALU Meritorious Professor Dr. Yousuf Khushik also attended the event.
On the occasion, VC SALU , interacted with SALU teams and said that SALU is committed to provide better and possible sports facilities to its teams participating in this event.
He maintained that the essence of peace can be promoted through sports which could provide a healthy competition. Dr. Khushik appreciated the efforts of the Higher Education Commission for promoting sports culture in the universities.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that this event is more than just a showcase of athleticism. It is a powerful statement of Pakistan's commitment to nurture its youth and promote a culture of sportsmanship, inclusiveness and excellence.
The Olympiad aims to engage students in healthy activities while scouting for raw talent that can be molded to represent Pakistan at national and international platforms, he added.
SALU’s contingent, comprising skilled male and female athletes, competed under the guidance of Director of Physical Education Mr. Murad Pirzada and Deputy Director Mr. Mujtaba Jatoi with related Manager & Coaches
The event reflected the Prime Minister’s dedication to fostering excellence in education and sports, showcasing the immense potential of Pakistan’s youth.
