The 83rd meeting of the Advanced Studies and Research Board (ASRB) of Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU), Khairpur, concluded with important academic and research decisions, including the recommendation for the award of degrees to 29 postgraduate scholars and a renewed emphasis on promoting research that addresses practical and societal challenges.
The meeting was held at the Syndicate Hall of the university and presided over by Vice Chancellor Meritorious Professor Dr. Yousuf Khushk. During the meeting, the Board academically endorsed 05 PhD candidates and 24 MS/M.Phil scholars for the award of their respective degrees.
The Board also approved a number of new research proposals submitted by MS, M.Phil and PhD scholars from various faculties of the university, reflecting the institution's continued focus on strengthening postgraduate research and academic development.
Addressing the meeting, Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Yousuf Khushk emphasized the need to ensure strict compliance with the criteria and guidelines of the Higher Education Commission (HEC), particularly in postgraduate education and research. He stressed that research at the university should not remain confined to academic requirements but should contribute to solving real-world problems and generating tangible benefits for society and the country.
“We should develop better mechanisms for scrutiny and implement the whole process strictly in accordance with the approved policy,” Dr. Khushk said. He further emphasized that research degrees should be connected with meaningful and competitive research projects, adding that project-based research can create a greater impact on society and the country.
The Vice Chancellor also encouraged faculty members and professors to actively pursue research projects and funding opportunities from organizations including the HEC, chambers of commerce and other national and international funding agencies. He said that securing competitive research projects would help strengthen the university’s research culture while enabling scholars and faculty members to develop practical solutions to community and societal problems.
Dr. Khushk further stressed the importance of establishing effective mechanisms for scrutiny, approval and implementation of academic and research policies. He directed the concerned authorities to ensure that all postgraduate academic and research processes were carried out transparently and strictly in accordance with the university’s prescribed policies and regulations.
The proceedings of the meeting were conducted by Member Dr. Munir Ahmed Kazi, while Mr. Islam Gul Mahar, Secretary for Postgraduate Studies, assisted in the proceedings.
The meeting was attended by prominent academic members, including Professor Dr. Maqsood Zia, Professor Dr. Wahid Bux Jatoi, Professor Dr. Minhoon Khan Laghari, Professor Dr. Ghulam Mustafa Mashori, Professor Dr. Noor Ahmed Shaikh, Professor Dr. Mushtaque Ali Jakhrani, Professor Dr. Liaqat Ali Chandio, Professor Dr. Akhtiar Ali Ghumro, Professor Dr. Irum Rani, Professor Dr. Tasleem Abro, Professor Dr. Sajjad Ali Raisi, Dr. Muzfar Sirohi and Dr. Sahib Oad.
Administrative officials, including Registrar Muhammad Hassan Halepoto, Imam Bux and Zafar Ali, along with other concerned officials, also attended the meeting.
The members appreciated the leadership of Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Yousuf Khushk and acknowledged his efforts toward improving the quality of education and strengthening the research environment at the university. They expressed confidence that continued emphasis on quality research, competitive research projects and policy-based academic processes would further enhance SALU’s academic standing and contribution to society.
