Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU), Khairpur, celebrated the 79th Independence Day of Pakistan with great national spirit, enthusiasm, and patriotic fervour. The celebrations commenced with prayers for the peace, progress, prosperity, and continued sovereignty of Pakistan.
Flag-Hoisting Ceremony
The flag-hoisting ceremony was performed by the Honourable Vice Chancellor, Meritorious Professor Dr. Yousuf Khushk, in the presence of the Pro-Vice Chancellor, Deans, faculty members, officers, employees, and a large number of students at the Flag Lawn. The national anthem was played on the occasion, creating an atmosphere of national pride and unity.
Vice Chancellor Calls Youth the Greatest Wealth and Future of Pakistan
Addressing the gathering, Meritorious Professor Dr. Yousuf Khushk said that the 79th Independence Day should not only be an occasion to remember the sacrifices through which Pakistan was achieved, but also a moment for every generation to reflect on what it is contributing to the country. “Our forefathers performed the greatest task of their time by giving us an independent homeland; now we must ask ourselves what great task we will accomplish for Pakistan in our time,” he said. Pointing towards the students and young children, he remarked, “Pakistan’s future is not somewhere far away; Pakistan’s future is sitting before us today. These children and young people will write the story of Pakistan in 2047, 2050 and beyond.”
Dr. Khushk emphasized that Pakistan’s greatest wealth lies not beneath the ground but in the minds of its young people. He urged students to combine degrees with skills, knowledge with creativity, and education with character, stressing that Artificial Intelligence, research, digital technologies, professional certifications, and innovation would define future opportunities. “Our young people should not merely ask, ‘Who will give me a job?’ They should develop themselves to a level where the world needs their knowledge and skills,” he said. He added that wherever Pakistani youth go in the world, their honesty, discipline, knowledge, hard work, and conduct become an introduction to Pakistan; therefore, personal success should ultimately contribute to the progress of society and the country.
Concluding his address, the Vice Chancellor called upon every student, teacher, employee, and child to make at least one positive contribution before the next Independence Day—whether by learning a new skill, transforming a student’s life, improving the workplace, developing an innovative idea, or adopting a good habit. “Next 14 August, instead of merely saying that another year has passed, let us ask ourselves: what did I add to Pakistan during this year?” he said. Dr. Khushk concluded with a message of optimism: “Pakistan’s best era has not passed; Pakistan’s best era is yet to come—and our young generation has to bring it. The first 79 years are part of our history; the coming years are yours to write.”
Festivities Include Cake Cutting, Traditional Sports and PT Show
A cake-cutting ceremony was also held as part of the celebrations. Various activities, including traditional Malakhro and tug-of-war, were organized. A colourful PT show was presented by students of SALU Model School, showcasing discipline, coordination, and patriotic spirit.
Tree Plantation Activity with HBL Bank
As part of the University’s commitment to environmental sustainability, a tree plantation activity was organized in collaboration with HBL Bank, Shah Abdul Latif University Khairpur Branch. The Honourable Vice Chancellor planted a sapling in front of the Faculty of Science, symbolizing the University’s commitment to a greener and more sustainable future.
Mega Event at Allama Ayaz Qazi Hall Showcases Patriotic Spirit
The second session of the Independence Day celebrations was held at Allama Ayaz Qazi Hall, where students and teachers of SALU Model School organized a colourful mega event to mark the 14th of August.
The programme featured patriotic tableaus, milli naghmas, and national songs, which were warmly appreciated by the audience. Students from the Debating Society also delivered speeches highlighting the significance of independence, national unity, and the responsibilities of the younger generation.
Academic Excellence and AI Education Highlighted
Speaking on the occasion, the Honourable Vice Chancellor appreciated the outstanding performance of the Model School students, particularly those who secured A1 grades in the Matric and Intermediate examinations. He said their achievements were a matter of pride for SALU Model School and the entire University community.
The Vice Chancellor also announced the formation of a committee to introduce Artificial Intelligence education at SALU Model School from Class VI to Matric, with the aim of equipping students with modern knowledge and skills at an early stage.
The Pro-Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr. Wahid Bakhsh Jatoi, and Deans Professor Dr. Noor Ahmed Shaikh, Professor Dr. Ghulam Mustafa Mashori, Professor Dr. Liaquat Ali Chandio, and Professor Dr. Mushtaque Ali Jakhrani also addressed the gathering.
The speakers highlighted the value of freedom, national unity, hard work, skills, and collective responsibility. They also acknowledged the role and sacrifices of the armed forces in safeguarding the country and emphasized that Pakistan possesses immense human and natural resources that can be transformed into national progress through dedication and unity.
Farzana Jamali, Principal of SALU Model School, highlighted the importance of freedom and paid tribute to the sacrifices made by the elders for the creation and independence of the country.
Organizers and Participants Commended
At the conclusion, the Honourable Vice Chancellor appreciated the teams of SALU Model School, A.O. Colony, and Student Affairs for their dedicated efforts in organizing the Independence Day celebrations. He particularly acknowledged the teachers of the Model School for preparing the colourful performances and extended special appreciation to the parents, especially mothers, and students for their enthusiastic participation.
The proceedings of the programme were conducted by Dr. Ali Raza Lashari, Coordinator, Student Societies Center.
Senior faculty members, including Professor Dr. Akhtiar Ali Ghumro, Professor Dr. Hisam Shaikh, Professor Dr. Agha Nadia, Professor Dr. Sajjad Raisi, Professor Dr. Farman Mangi, Dr. Zain-ul-Abideen, Dr. Zahid Sahito, Dr. Sahib Oad, Dr. Sadia, Saira Chandio, Paras Khaskheli, and Aijaz Ahmed Shaikh, attended the ceremony.
Representatives of HBL Bank, including Mr. Sajan, Ms. Farana, and Danish, along with university officials Muhammad Hassan Halepoto, Dr. Zulfiqar Shaikh, Munir Ahmed Rashidi, Imran Soomro, Rashid Hussain Aamur, Aijaz Sial, Muhammad Murad Peerzado, Aamir Pathan, Mujtaba Jatoi, Panah Mullah, Farhan Memon, Ayaz Mari, Hakim Phulpoto, Waseem Kalhoro, Aijaz Mahar, and others were also present, making the Independence Day celebrations a memorable occasion.
In a significant first, Shah Abdul Latif University celebrated Independence Day simultaneously across all its campuses, including the Main Campus, Khairpur; Ghotki Campus, led by Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Maqsood Zia; and Shahdadkot Campus, led by its Pro-Vice Chancellor. Flag-hoisting ceremonies and patriotic activities were organized at each campus, reflecting a shared spirit of national unity and bringing the entire SALU community together in the Independence Day celebrations.
The celebrations concluded with a renewed pledge to uphold the values of unity, faith, discipline, patriotism, education, and service to the nation.
