Shah Latif University Emerges Champion; University of Sindh Secures Runner-Up Position

The 1st Provincial Moot Court Competition concluded successfully at Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU), Khairpur, with District & Sessions Judge Khairpur Mano Mal gracing the closing ceremony as Chief Guest. The two-day landmark event brought together more than 18 teams from across Sindh, providing aspiring lawyers a vibrant platform to demonstrate their advocacy, legal research, critical thinking and courtroom skills.
Senior Civil Judge Waqar Junejo and Liaquat Ali Shar, Additional Advocate General Sindh, participated in the closing ceremony as Guests of Honour. They appreciated the initiative and encouraged the students to pursue the legal profession with dedication and professionalism.
The competition was organized by M.H. Larik and Associates in collaboration with the Shah Abdul Latif University, Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto School of Law. Participating teams argued the fictional case Arslan Khan versus The State before panels of legal professionals.
Addressing the closing ceremony, District & Sessions Judge Mano Mal appreciated Vice Chancellor Meritorious Professor Dr. Yousuf Khushk and his team for successfully organizing the historic provincial competition. He said moot court competitions bridge the gap between theoretical legal education and practical courtroom experience and help students prepare for the demands of the legal profession.
Motivating the young participants, Judge Mano Mal emphasized hard work, discipline and respect for elders, saying that what students learn and practise today will benefit them throughout their professional lives. He congratulated all participating teams and wished them success in their future legal careers.
Vice Chancellor Meritorious Professor Dr. Yousuf Khushk, in his address, appreciated the Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto School of Law, Dean Faculty of Law Abdul Rehman Bhatti for his patronage and support, and M.H. Larik and Associates, particularly Senior Advocate Manzoor Hussain Larik, for their collective efforts in successfully organizing the competition and providing law students from across Sindh with a valuable platform for practical legal learning.
He particularly commended the Dean, Faculty of Law, and the organizing team for their commitment to promoting advocacy skills and strengthening practical legal education at SALU.
Dr. Khushk termed the competition a significant step towards strengthening practical legal education and said such platforms develop legal research, advocacy, critical thinking, confidence and professional courtroom skills among students.
“A louder voice does not make an argument stronger; a strong argument speaks for itself,” Dr. Khushk remarked. He urged future lawyers to uphold integrity, professionalism and justice, emphasizing that the Bench and Bar are two essential pillars of a strong justice system.
Encouraged by the successful outcome of the competition, the Vice Chancellor directed the concerned department to make the Provincial Moot Court Competition a regular event at SALU, enabling students to continuously sharpen their professional skills and prepare for participation in national and international moot court competitions.
Senior Advocate Manzoor Hussain Larik expressed satisfaction over the successful organization of the competition and acknowledged the University’s support and encouragement in transforming the initiative into a province-wide academic event.
Director, SZAB School of Law, Javed Hussain Bhayo described the competition as far more than an academic exercise, saying it provided students an opportunity to transform theoretical knowledge into practical advocacy, strengthen their research and argumentation skills, and experience realistic courtroom proceedings.
The welcome address was delivered by Dr. Ali Raza Lashari, while Prof. Dr. Taj Muhammad Lashari presented the vote of thanks.
During the closing ceremony Chief Guest, the Guests of Honour distributed certificates and shields among the participants in recognition of their participation and performance.
The ceremony reached its highlight with the announcement of the final results. The team from Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur emerged as Champion, while the University of Sindh secured the Runner-Up position. District & Sessions Judge Mano Mal and Vice Chancellor Dr. Yousuf Khushk jointly presented the championship and runner-up shields to the respective teams amid applause from the participants and guests.
The event concluded on a celebratory note with group photographs of the winning and participating teams with the Chief Guest, Guests of Honour, Vice Chancellor, organizers and faculty members, marking the successful and memorable conclusion of SALU’s 1st Provincial Moot Court Competition.
