A high-level meeting of the IQC was held at the Syndicate Hall of Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU), Khairpur, chaired by the Vice Chancellor, Meritorious Professor Dr. Yousuf Khushk. The session brought together the university’s top administration, faculty leadership, and key officials to deliberate on four major institutional priorities: the SALU ORIC ranking, the progress and implementation of the Academic Module, internship of Students and a comprehensive review of the University Strategic Plan, alongside other administrative matters.
Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Yousuf Khushk, in his keynote address, underscored the urgent need to align university education with global technological advancements. “The world is changing rapidly, and technology is advancing every day. We must enhance the skills of our students to help them cope with these emerging challenges,” he said. He stressed that degrees alone are no longer sufficient; instead, practical work must become an integral part of the curriculum. “We have to ensure that our degrees are accompanied by hands-on experience like capstone projects, entrepreneurship training, and compulsory internships. These elements will empower students to secure jobs and make meaningful contributions to society,” Dr. Khushk added.
The Vice Chancellor also highlighted specific initiatives undertaken with the support of the Sindh government, including the introduction of Google certification courses aimed at improving students’ digital literacy and employability. These courses, he noted, are part of a broader strategy to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry demands, particularly in the areas of information technology, data analytics, and digital marketing.
During the meeting, a detailed presentation on the SALU ORIC Ranking was presented by Dr. Rafaqat Arian, Convener of the SALU ORIC Ranking Committee. The presentation highlighted the university’s current standing in national and international rankings and identified key performance indicators requiring improvement, including research output, citation impact, international collaboration, and faculty qualifications. The IQC discussed a roadmap to strengthen data collection mechanisms for ranking agencies and further enhance the role of the Office of Research, Innovation, and Commercialization (ORIC) through interdisciplinary research initiatives and increased publication in high-impact journals.
The meeting also reviewed the implementation progress of the Academic Module and discussed measures for strengthening academic governance, digitization, and institutional planning in line with the university’s Strategic Plan.
Key university officials in attendance included Pro-Vice Chancellors Professor Dr. Maqsood Zia and Professor Dr. Wahid Bux Jatoi; Deans of Faculties Professor Dr. Ghulam Mustafa Mashori, Professor Dr. Noor Ahmed Shaikh, Professor Dr. Mushtaque Ali Jakhrani, Professor Dr. Minhoon Khan Laghari, and Professor Dr. Liaquat Ali Chandio; along with Directors, Chairpersons, Professors, and Heads of various teaching departments. The Registrar, Muhammad Hassan Halepoto; the Director Finance, Qazi Nizamuddin; Nazir Phulpoto the Controller of Examinations, and others were also present.
