KHAIRPUR, April 29, 2026
The 81st meeting of the Advanced Studies and Research Board (ASRB) at Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU), Khairpur, concluded with far-reaching decisions aimed at strengthening the university's research culture and linking academic inquiry directly to practical societal benefits.
The high-level session, held at the university’s Syndicate Hall, was chaired by the Vice Chancellor, Meritorious Professor Dr. Yousuf Khushk, and resulted in key academic approvals alongside a renewed institutional commitment to problem-solving research.
In a major outcome, the board formally recommended the awarding of advanced degrees to 15 postgraduate scholars. This includes academic endorsement for 3 PhD candidates and 12 MS/M.Phil students, clearing the path for their degrees to be conferred.
In addition to these approvals, the board greenlit a series of new research proposals submitted by MS, M.Phil, and PhD scholars representing a range of faculties across the university, further expanding the institution’s research pipeline.
Addressing the meeting, Vice Chancellor Meritorious Professor Dr. Yousuf Khushk underscored the critical importance of adhering strictly to the quality benchmarks set by the Higher Education Commission (HEC), particularly in postgraduate studies. He called for the introduction and enforcement of more stringent mechanisms for the scrutiny, evaluation, and implementation of academic and research policies. “The entire process must be executed strictly in accordance with the university’s prescribed policy framework,” he emphasized, reminding board members that procedural integrity is the bedrock of academic excellence.
Beyond compliance, the Vice Chancellor urged the board and the research community to think innovatively about the purpose of their research work. “We are here to facilitate the scholars, and their research work should be innovative and beneficial for society,”
Dr. Khushk stated. He stressed that it is no longer sufficient for research to remain confined to library shelves or academic journals. Instead, he called for a paradigm shift in which university-led investigations provide tangible, actionable solutions to real-world community problems, ranging from local development challenges to broader socio-economic issues.
The meeting also served as an occasion to acknowledge institutional progress. Members present at the session expressed collective appreciation for Vice Chancellor Dr. Yousuf Khushk’s leadership, crediting him for elevating the university to new academic heights. They noted marked improvements in the quality of education and the deliberate cultivation of a robust, inquiry-driven research culture across campus disciplines.
The proceedings were formally conducted by Dr. Munir Ahmed Kazi, a member of the board, while Mr. Islam Gul Mahar, Secretary for Postgraduate Studies, managed the official secretariat functions. Their coordination ensured a smooth and productive session, with all agenda items addressed in a timely manner.
A distinguished array of board members attended the meeting, including Professor Dr. Wahid Bux Jatoi, Professor Dr. Ghulam Mustafa Mashori, Professor Dr. Minhoon Khan Laghari, Professor Dr. Mushtaque Ali Jakhrani, Professor Dr. Liaqat Ali Chandio, Professor Dr. Tasleem Abro, Professor Dr. Sajjad Ali Raisi, Dr. Muzfar Sirohi, and Dr. Sahib Oad. Their participation reflected the interdisciplinary and senior-level engagement that characterizes the ASRB’s decision-making.
In addition to the academic members, key administrative officials were also present. The registrar, Muhammad Hassan Halepoto, attended alongside the Deputy Controller of Examinations, Tahir Khaskheli, and the Assistant Director, among others. Their presence highlighted the seamless integration of academic governance with administrative support, a synergy deemed essential for implementing the board’s decisions effectively.
The 81st ASRB meeting thus reaffirmed SALU Khairpur’s dual commitment to uphold the highest standards of postgraduate education as mandated by the HEC, and to ensure that every thesis, dissertation, and research project contributes meaningfully to the well-being of society.
