In a ceremony aimed at bridging the digital divide and empowering students from underserved regions, the Shahdadkot Campus of Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU), Khairpur, held a merit-based laptop distribution event. Vice Chancellor, Meritorious Professor Dr. Yousuf Khushk, distributed laptops under PM Youth Laptop Scheme Phase IV, among students and described the initiative as “a significant step towards strengthening the dreams” of local youth. He urged students to turn knowledge into strength, adding, “These laptops are keys to your future.”
Addressing a gathering of faculty members, distinguished guests, and students at ceremony, Dr. Khushk said, “It is a matter of great pleasure and honor for me to be among you today. This campus is not only a center of learning but also a place where the dreams of the youth of this region are nurtured and realized.”
Calling the laptops “keys to your future,” he emphasized that in today’s rapidly evolving digital world, access to knowledge, research, and global connectivity is just a click away. “This facility is being provided to enable you to expand your knowledge, acquire new skills, and showcase your potential to the world,” he added.
Reaffirming the institution’s commitment to educational equity, the Vice Chancellor stated that providing quality education and modern facilities in regions like Shahdadkot is a top priority. “We want students here to have the same opportunities as those available in major cities. These laptops are a practical reflection of our commitment to ensuring that education and technology reach every student.”
At the same time, he reminded the recipients that success does not come from resources alone. “It requires hard work, integrity, and dedication. These laptops are a trust placed in your hands; use them for positive, constructive, and academic purposes.” He outlined that the university is continuously striving to strengthen all its campuses, particularly Shahdadkot, in terms of academic and research excellence, with digital facilities, modern curricula, and faculty professional development as integral parts of its agenda.
The Vice Chancellor extended sincere gratitude to Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, the Government of Pakistan, the Higher Education Commission (HEC) Islamabad, and all those who made the initiative possible. He urged everyone to pledge to use knowledge, research, and technology to transform not only their own lives but also the future of their region and country.
Drawing inspiration from the local ethos, he remarked, “The land of Shahdadkot teaches us a powerful lesson, that even with limited resources, determination and hard work can lead to great success. Your future is shaped by your struggle, make education your strength, believe in your potential, and move forward with confidence.”
In a special message to local media, he called for ownership of the region through constructive coverage. “I also urge our local media to take ownership of this region by highlighting its educational, social, and developmental efforts, because the true identity of any region is built through the collective responsibility and commitment of its people.”
Welcoming the gathering, Acting Pro-Vice Chancellor of Shahdadkot Campus Professor Dr. Maqsood Zia expressed gratitude to the Vice Chancellor for his encouragement and support. “His vision is to make our university rank among world-class institutions,” Dr. Zia added.
Focal Person for the Laptop Scheme, Dr. Amjad Mughal, informed the audience about the PM Youth Scheme Phase IV, stating that top-performing students (toppers) were selected for the laptops. He revealed that more laptops had been allocated to SALU due to the Vice Chancellor’s efforts, which also made additional scholarships possible. “It was the Vice Chancellor’s vision to provide laptops at your campus so that you do not face difficulties and his vision is to provide facilities at your doorstep,” Dr. Mughal said.
Later, during an interaction with faculty members, the Vice Chancellor advised them to remain involved in projects, writing, and journals to continue growing and grooming themselves. “You own this area, its people, its students, and the city of Shahdadkot because they have owned you. Work hard on projects, research, and journals for these people. We must make a commitment to this,” he said.
He suggested inviting different people to events organized at the campus, noting that they would support the institution in return. “When you own something, when you organize, you create lasting relationships,” Dr. Khushk said.
During interaction with students, the students appreciated that the Vice Chancellor had come to listen to their issues and discuss facilities.
