The Institute of Physics at Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU), Khairpur, held a comprehensive orientation session for its new students, outlining a vision of academic excellence, research, and holistic development.
VC Encourages Inquiry and Innovation,
SALU Vice Chancellor, Meritorious Professor Dr. Yousuf Khushk, addressed the gathering, noting that the university, now in its 40th year, is the third largest in Sindh and boasts a network of over 300,0000 alumni. "You are now part of this large family," he stated.
Dr. Khushk stressed that "a person can be powerful, not subjects," and elaborated on the extensive role of physics in daily life, particularly in enabling communication. He encouraged innovation, saying, "You can lead if you innovate anything to facilitate life." He urged students to ask questions in class to enhance their skills and knowledge.
Highlighting the purpose of education, the VC Dr Yousuf Khushk said it is about "taking responsibility to contribute to society and country." He advised students to trust themselves, work hard, and stay physically and mentally active through sports and societies. "When you join sports, hospitals will be empty," he remarked.
Support and Opportunities for Students
Dr. Khushk detailed the university's support systems, including learned faculty who "not only provide education but create it." He announced upcoming scholarship opportunities, including a Google scholarship worth $3,000, aimed at enhancing students' skills.
Students were advised to regularly check SALU’s official pages, HEC Sindh, HEC Islamabad, and notice boards for updates. "If you ignore these, you are ignoring your opportunities," he cautioned.
Reaffirming the institution's commitment, the VC mentioned the operation of 58 buses and significant investments in student facilities. "This amount is being spent so your dreams, and those of your parents, community, province, and country, can be materialized," he said.
He directed students to contact Focal Persons, Students Welfare Affairs officers, and deans for issue resolution, concluding on an optimistic note: "A bright future is waiting for you."
Chairman Professor Dr. Farman Mangi welcomed the students, emphasizing alignment with the institute's objectives. He highlighted the introduction of scientific projects and industry linkages, urging students to engage deeply with research opportunities. Dr. Mangi encouraged active participation in numerous academic and extracurricular activities, affirming that every student possesses equal potential. "Keep learning and grooming," he advised.
