The Pharmacy and Botany departments of Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU), Khairpur, held a comprehensive orientation session for new students, presided over by the Vice Chancellor, Meritorious Professor Dr. Yousuf Khushk.
In his keynote address, VC Khushk underscored the profound societal responsibility inherent in these fields of study.
Addressing the pharmacy and botany students, Dr. Khushk stated, "A pharmacist is instrumental in saving the life of a patient. This is not merely a degree; it is a responsibility." He elaborated that while doctors prescribe, pharmacists must ensure the critical quality, correct dosage, and expiry of medicines. "This is a moral responsibility, and it must be carried out fairly and honestly," he emphasized.
The Vice Chancellor highlighted the extensive teamwork involved in establishing and accrediting the department, crediting parents, teachers, and the academic council. He assured that the university administration, teachers, and staff are united in creating a better environment for students. "Teachers are here to teach and guide. Now it is your responsibility to enhance your skills, knowledge, and expertise," he told the students.
Dr. Khushk revealed significant investment in student development, mentioning that the university has disbursed 13 crore rupees in scholarships and urged students to work hard and excel in their classes. He encouraged them to seek national and international exposure, noting that high performers would be selected by faculty for such opportunities. "The government is spending huge funds to run this university for you. What we want is for you to be educated to play your role for society," he added.
Looking ahead, the VC Dr Yousuf Khushk expressed optimism about future scholarships and detailed that, beyond the curriculum, SALU has signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with various institutions for internships and research, both within the country and abroad. "Focus on your education and your responsibility to contribute to society and the country. We want to work together to materialize your dreams," he concluded, predicting that many of the students would shine on the world stage.
Speaking to the botany students, Dr. Khushk linked their field to the "department of greenery" and highlighted its potential for societal contribution and economic impact. "You, in the botany department, can play a significant role in contributing to society and the country and work for the economy," he said, reminding them of their four-year journey to build their futures.
The Chairmen of Botany and Pharmacy Departments reinforced the VC's message, urging students to adhere to the academic calendar, utilize the competent faculty for their grooming, work diligently towards their goals, and explore the university's various departments and facilities.
