A farewell ceremony was organized by the faculty members of the Institute of Commerce & Management, Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU), Khairpur, in honour of Professor Dr. Amir Hussain Shar, former Dean, Faculty of Management Sciences, former Chairman of the Department of Commerce, and founding Director of the Institute of Commerce & Management, upon the completion of his distinguished university service.
Meritorious Professor Dr. Muhammad Yousuf Khushk, Vice Chancellor, Shah Abdul Latif University, graced the occasion and paid rich tribute to Professor Dr. Amir Hussain Shar for his longstanding academic, administrative and institutional contributions.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Khushk said that Professor Shar’s professional journey, from Lecturer to Dean of the Faculty of Management Sciences, reflected his dedication, professional commitment and valuable services to higher education.
He particularly acknowledged Professor Shar’s instrumental role, as Head of the Department of Commerce, in its transformation into the Institute of Commerce & Management, describing it as an important contribution to the University’s institutional development.
“An academic’s true legacy is not measured merely by the positions he holds, but by the institutions he strengthens, the knowledge he contributes and the generations of students he prepares for the future,” the Vice Chancellor remarked.
Dr. Khushk further observed that Professor Shar’s contributions to teaching, research, academic leadership and student development would remain an important part of the University’s academic history. He appreciated the large number of students who benefited from his teaching and mentorship and acknowledged his positive, cooperative and constructive relationships with colleagues throughout his professional career.
“The students we educate, the scholars we mentor and the institutions we help build are among the most enduring contributions of a university teacher. Professor Shar has served the University in all these dimensions,” he added.
Extending his best wishes, the Vice Chancellor expressed hope that Professor Shar would enjoy a healthy, peaceful and fulfilling new chapter of life after retirement, with opportunities to pursue his personal, intellectual and academic interests.
Speaking on the occasion, Professor Dr. Akhtiar Ghumro, Head of the Institute of Commerce & Management, appreciated Professor Shar’s outstanding academic and administrative services. He acknowledged his role in strengthening the Institute, promoting academic excellence and creating a supportive learning environment for students and faculty members. He described Professor Shar’s contributions to institutional development and his commitment to colleagues and students as a lasting source of inspiration.
Professor Dr. Riaz Mangi, while paying tribute to the retiring professor, observed that Professor Shar’s professional conduct as a teacher, colleague and institutional leader would always be remembered with respect. He particularly appreciated his positive attitude towards education, cooperative approach and dedication to the academic and professional growth of students and fellow faculty members.
Dr. Saifullah Shaikh, who conducted the proceedings of the ceremony, also acknowledged Professor Shar’s valuable contributions to the Institute and highlighted his commitment to teaching, academic development and collegial relationships throughout his university career.
Dr. Zulfiqar Ali Rajpar, Chairman, Department of Commerce, Shaikh Ayaz University, Shikarpur, and a former student of Professor Shar, specially travelled from Shikarpur to participate in the farewell gathering. He expressed his deep respect and gratitude towards his teacher, acknowledging the important role Professor Shar played in shaping the academic and professional careers of his students. His participation reflected the enduring bond between a dedicated teacher and his students.
The ceremony was also attended by Dr. Anil Kumar, Syed Muqeem Shah, Dr. Zeenat Kamal, Dr. Halepoto, other faculty members, staff and students of the Institute of Commerce & Management, who joined in acknowledging Professor Shar’s distinguished services and extending their best wishes.
As a gesture of respect and appreciation, the Vice Chancellor and faculty members presented souvenirs and traditional Sindhi Ajraks to Professor Shar in recognition of his longstanding association with the University and his valuable contributions to higher education.
The farewell gathering also featured a cake-cutting ceremony, followed by a luncheon hosted by the Institute of Commerce & Management in honour of the retiring professor. The occasion provided an opportunity for colleagues, students and well-wishers to share memories and celebrate his academic journey.
The ceremony concluded in a warm and cordial atmosphere, with prayers and best wishes for Professor Dr. Amir Hussain Shar’s continued health, happiness and a peaceful, rewarding and fulfilling post-retirement life.
