A laptop distribution ceremony for the Prime Minister’s Laptop Scheme (Phase IV) was held at Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU) on today, bringing relief and resources to meritorious students. The event took place at the Students Society Centre on the main campus, where laptops were awarded to students who qualified based on a rigorous, merit-based selection process.
Addressing the gathering, the Vice Chancellor of SALU, Meritorious Professor Dr. Yousuf Khushk, hailed the initiative as a landmark moment for the university. He described the Prime Minister’s Youth Laptop Scheme, launched under the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, as more than just a distribution program. "It is a national strategy aimed at empowering Pakistani youth," he stated.
Dr. Khushk extended his sincere appreciation to the Government of Pakistan and the Higher Education Commission (HEC). He lauded the HEC for ensuring a transparent, merit-based, and well-organized process to ensure that laptops reach deserving, hardworking, and talented students. "HEC has not only supervised this initiative but has also established a credible system that upholds the standards of higher education, serving as an exemplary model for the entire country," he added.
The Vice Chancellor outlined the key objectives of the scheme, emphasizing its role in promoting digital education and literacy by providing students with modern tools to access and analyze information. He highlighted that the program aims to bridge the digital divide by offering equal access to technology for talented students from low-income backgrounds, thereby reducing social and economic inequality.
Furthermore, the scheme is designed to encourage research and innovation among undergraduate, MPhil, and PhD students by providing them with essential facilities for data analysis and thesis writing. It also aims to prepare youth for employment by developing digital skills and fostering connections with freelancing markets and global opportunities.
Dr. Khushk reaffirmed SALU's commitment to translating the concept of “From Degrees to Skills” into practice. "Our vision is that our students should not merely earn degrees, but emerge equipped with skills, advance in research, and play an active role in national development," he said.
In his concluding remarks, Dr. Khushk urged the student recipients to utilize the laptops productively. "I urge my dear students not to limit these laptops to entertainment or social media, but to use them for online courses, scientific research, literary study, business planning, and service to the nation. These devices are a trust placed in your hands—use them wisely in the pursuit of knowledge and progress," he advised.
He concluded by extending congratulations to the Prime Minister, the Government of Pakistan, the Higher Education Commission, the event organizers, faculty members, and the students, ending his speech with the patriotic slogans: "Pakistan Zindabad — Shah Abdul Latif University Paindabad."
Focal Person for the Laptop Scheme, Dr. Amjad Mughal, provided detailed insights into the selection process, confirming that students were selected purely on merit with complete transparency maintained throughout.
