Parliamentary Secretary Syeda Marvi Rashdi Visits SALU: Advocates Innovation, Transparency, and Student Welfare.

Syeda Marvi Rashdi, Member of the Provincial Assembly (MPA) and Parliamentary Secretary for the Universities & Boards Department, visited Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU) Khairpur.

During her visit, Rashdi toured several key institutions within the university, including the Date Palm Research Institute (DPRI), Center for Biodiversity and Conservation (CBC), Archeology Museum, and Rozey Dhani Chair.

The Vice-Chancellor, Meritorious Professor Dr. Yousuf Khushk accompanied MPA Rashdi to the Date Palm Research Institute (DPRI), where MPA Rashdi commended the research work being conducted but emphasized the need for greater media coverage to raise awareness. “The work being done here is commendable, but it is not being highlighted in the media. It should be brought to the forefront so that the people and society can benefit,” she stated.

She also suggested the university’s publication section should be more active in sharing its achievements with the public. Rashdi expressed her intention to highlight the university's accomplishments on various platforms, including the parliament, to ensure the work is recognized.

"I have the honor and privilege to visit the university and gather accurate information as I have to share that on different forms including parliament," Rashdi added. “I encourage you to share any relevant documents and information in this regard.”

In her discussion with university deans later, Rashdi emphasized the importance of career counseling for students. “This is essential for helping students prepare for their future careers,” she said. She also addressed the issue of harassment, emphasizing that it should be taken seriously for all genders, not just women. "There is no taboo in discussing harassment, and it is important that universities tackle this issue effectively," she stated.

Additionally, Rashdi appreciated the university for adopting a paperless system, solar energy solutions, and integrate artificial intelligence (AI) to improve efficiency.

Expressing her pride in being an alumna of SALU, Rashdi added, “As a Latifian, it is my responsibility to give back to the university, and I am committed to supporting its development.”

Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Yousuf Khushk welcomed Rashdi and briefed her on the university's recent initiatives, including the completion of 120 online certification programs. In addition, the distribution of 1,000 scholarships with a 50% male to female ratio would take place soon. He also mentioned the university’s efforts to publicize its achievements.

“We are working on new initiatives, including collaborations with international institutions and the establishment of new departments, such as artificial intelligence,” said Dr. Khushk. “Despite budgetary constraints, we continue to work towards enhancing the quality of education and providing opportunities for our students."

Pro vice chancellor Main campus Dr Wahid bux Jatoiee Deans from various faculties, including Prof. Dr. Ghulam Mustafa Mashori, Prof. Dr. Ameer Hussain Shar, Prof. Dr. Noor Ahmed Shaikh, Prof. Dr. Mushtaque Ali Jakhrani, and Prof. Dr. Naveed Ahmed Shaikh, also shared updates on initiatives like the creation of a harassment committee and the development of e-learning systems. They revealed plans for a digital library and further improvements in the university’s infrastructure.

Munir Ahmed Shah, the Director of IT, highlighted the implementation of an automation system, including biometric attendance and smart classrooms, aimed at promoting transparency and accountability within the university.

The visit concluded with a cultural exchange, where Rashdi was presented with a souvenir and a cultural gift by the Vice Chancellor.
