Chinese Consulate General in Karachi Hosts Seminar on “Global Governance and China-Pakistan Relations”; VC SALU Khairpur Shares Key Proposals for Academic Collaboration

KARACHI, Sept. 29, 2026:
The Chinese Consulate General in Karachi hosted a seminar on “Global Governance and China-Pakistan Relations,” bringing together Vice Chancellors and senior representatives of universities from Sindh and Balochistan to exchange views on global governance, Pakistan-China relations, educational cooperation and future academic partnerships.
The seminar was held in the broader context of the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China and the first anniversary of President Xi Jinping’s Global Governance Initiative (GGI). The deliberations focused on strengthening educational cooperation, academic and research linkages, institutional partnerships and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.
Mr. Feng Dengheng, Acting Consul General of China in Karachi, welcomed the participants and set the context for the seminar. Prof. Dr. Tariq Rafi, Chairman, Sindh Higher Education Commission guest of honour , also addressed the gathering and shared his views on higher education and academic cooperation, while Dr. Muhammad Ali Shaikh key note speaker and coordinated the proceedings.
The seminar brought together university leadership from across Sindh and Balochistan. Meritorious Professor Dr. Yousuf Khushk, Vice Chancellor, Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur, participated along with Vice Chancellors and senior representatives from the University of Karachi, NED University of Engineering and Technology, University of Sindh, Jamshoro, Sindh Madressatul Islam University, Aror University of Art, Architecture, Design and Heritage, Quaid-e-Awam University of Engineering, Science and Technology (QUEST), Nawabshah, Benazir Bhutto Shaheed University of Technology and Skill Development, Khairpur Mirs, Dawood University of Engineering and Technology, and University of Turbat , besides representatives of several other universities and higher education institutions from Karachi and other parts of Sindh and Balochistan.
Speaking on the occasion, Meritorious Professor Dr. Yousuf Khushk shared three proposals for strengthening Pakistan-China academic and institutional collaboration.
First, he proposed the establishment of an annual Pakistan-China University Leadership Forum, bringing together Vice Chancellors and university presidents from both countries to share experiences and successful practices in university governance, digital transformation, research, innovation and higher education reform.
Second, Dr. Khushk proposed “100 Pakistan-China Joint Classrooms,” digitally connecting classrooms across Pakistani and Chinese universities for joint lectures, courses and student interaction. He observed:
“We may not be able to send every student across borders, but we can certainly allow knowledge to travel across borders.”
Third, he proposed the establishment of a Pakistan-China Knowledge Translation Lab, envisioned as a collaborative platform for translating and disseminating literature, research, scientific knowledge, technological developments and policy studies in Chinese, Urdu and English.
The participants also exchanged views on the wider role of universities in addressing emerging global challenges and strengthening academic, research and technological cooperation. The discussion explored possibilities for greater university-to-university engagement, collaborative research, digital connectivity, academic exchanges and increased engagement of young scholars and students.
At the conclusion of the seminar, the Chinese Consulate General in Karachi presented copies of “Xi Jinping: The Governance of China” as commemorative gifts to the participating Vice Chancellors and university representatives. The volume brings together President Xi Jinping’s writings and addresses on a wide range of subjects, including Chinese modernization, governance and reform, people-centred development, sustainable development, diplomacy, people-to-people exchanges, the Global South, Belt and Road cooperation and global governance.
The seminar provided a constructive platform for dialogue between the Chinese Consulate General in Karachi and the higher education leadership of Sindh and Balochistan. The exchange of ideas and proposals reflected a shared interest in exploring practical avenues for deeper Pakistan-China educational cooperation, research partnerships, knowledge exchange and people-to-people connectivity, while providing useful perspectives for future academic and institutional collaboration.
