The event featured the distribution of wheelchairs and assistive devices, an assistive devices exhibition, a ribbon-cutting ceremony, and a tour of the exhibition by distinguished guests. A variety of sports and recreational activities, including table tennis, bucket ball, badminton, wheelchair race and handicraft displays, highlighted the talent, confidence and abilities of the participants.
The program commenced with the recitation of the Holy Quran and the National Anthem, followed by a welcome address by NDSP Chairman Ali Anwar Sindhu. Dr. Javed Morijo briefed the audience on the institution’s performance and services, stating that it was their 110th event and the third consecutive year of partnership for this cause. A tableau based on a verse of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai was also presented by the Special Education Department, Government of Sindh.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Guest Deputy Commissioner Khairpur Altaf Hussain Chachar said that an inclusive society is one that does not measure people by their limitations but creates opportunities for their abilities to flourish. He emphasized that persons with special abilities are not merely beneficiaries of support but equal partners in the progress and development of the country.
He said that the government is committed to translating inclusion into practical opportunities through education, accessibility, skills development and employment, including special employment quotas. He stressed that true empowerment begins when opportunity replaces sympathy and ability becomes the basis of recognition.
Concluding his remarks, the Deputy Commissioner appreciated Vice Chancellor, Meritorious Professor Dr. Yousuf Khushk, for his inclusive and forward-looking approach and commended SALU, NDSP, BSWA and the collaborating organizations for providing a meaningful platform to recognize, encourage and empower persons with special abilities.
In his address, Vice Chancellor, Meritorious Prof Dr Yousuf Khushk, said that every human being represents a world of possibilities and should be recognized by their talent, dreams, knowledge, creativity and character. He emphasized that diversity is the beauty of society and that universities have a responsibility to create an inclusive environment where every student has equal opportunities to learn, develop skills and realize their potential.
Dr. Khushk said that assistive technology, education, training and appropriate facilities can open new avenues for young people to demonstrate their abilities with confidence. Referring to Independence Day, he said, “We must build a Pakistan where every mind has the opportunity to think, every talent finds a platform for expression, every young person has access to education and skills, and every dream has a sky in which to fly.”
He termed the SALU–NDSP MoU a “bridge of possibilities,” expressing the hope that the collaboration would lead to practical initiatives in training, skills development, assistive technology, sports and greater opportunities for persons with disabilities.
Addressing the young participants, the Vice Chancellor urged them to dream big and make knowledge, skills, creativity and confidence the foundation of their identity. “Your success can become courage for another young person, light for another dream, and a pathway for someone else’s journey,” he remarked.
Addressing the gathering, Abdul Qudoos Memon from RDDPD Sukkur highlighted the organization’s efforts in collecting data on persons with disabilities to better understand and address their needs. He announced that preparations for shelters for persons with disabilities were underway, where their needs would be appropriately catered to.
A significant highlight of the event was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur and NDSP, formalized by Vice Chancellor, Meritorious Professor Dr. Muhammad Yousuf Khushk, and NDSP Chairman Ali Anwar Sindhu.
