In a significant step towards international academic cooperation, Vice Chancellor Meritorious Professor Dr. Yousuf Khushk of Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU) expressed a strong interest in fostering partnerships with educational institutions in African countries during a meeting with Ahmed Ali Sirohey, Director General (Africa) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA).
Dr. Khushk highlighted the potential for university-to-university collaborations, particularly in language studies and other disciplines that could benefit both Pakistan and African nations.
He proposed an initial scholarship program offering 10 African students partial scholarships, including free hostel accommodation and tuition waivers. "These students will become ambassadors for SALU and Pakistan upon their return," he stated. Additional students beyond the initial quota would be accommodated with adjusted fees.
Despite financial constraints, the Vice Chancellor assured that funding could be managed, emphasizing the university’s commitment to expanding academic ties.
He also suggested introducing new courses and establishing PhD linkages with African institutions to promote joint research on mutually beneficial topics.
Ahmed Ali Sirohey underscored Africa’s growing economic and educational potential, noting that the continent could form a union akin to the European Union by 2030, creating a billion-dollar market.
He urged SALU to explore faculty exchange programs, joint degree initiatives, and education fairs in Africa to strengthen engagement.
This initiative would mark a pivotal effort to enhance Pakistan’s academic outreach in Africa, fostering long-term educational and cultural ties, he added.
The dignitary was presented with an Ajrak and a souvenir as a token of appreciation.
The meeting was attended by Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Wahid Bux Jatoi, Dean of Arts and Languages Professor Dr. Ghulam Mustafa Mashori, Dr Ali Raza Lashari, Zamir Ali Lashari and other faculty members.
