Press Release
The annual 2nd Students’ Week 2026 at Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU), Khairpur commenced today with a vibrant and multifaceted inaugural ceremony, setting the stage for a week dedicated to holistic student development, environmental awareness, and strategic international partnerships. The event blended ceremonial tradition with substantive dialogues on the future of education, underscoring the university's commitment to fostering modern skills, critical thinking, and entrepreneurial talent among its students.
The day started with the formal inauguration of a series of events by university dignitaries and guests. These included a colourful Flowers Exhibition at the Central Lawn, a Book Fair, an Entrepreneurship Mela, and an Inter-Departmental Sports Competition. The inaugurations were performed by former Advisor to the Chief Minister of Sindh, Syed Asad Ali Shah, and Meritorious Professor Dr. Yousuf Khushk Vice Chancellor of SALU, Mr Altaf Chahchar Deputy Commissioner Khairpur , Engr. Dr Zahid Hussain Khand Vice Chancellor Arore University and Major Waqas Khattak from Sukkur among others, highlighting the week's integrated theme of academic, cultural, and commercial pursuits.
In his keynote address as Chief Guest, former Advisor Syed Asad Ali Shah warned of rapid global technological shifts and rising unemployment. "The world is changing fast. AI is advancing. Students must learn modern skills of the 21st century," he urged. He specifically recommended certification courses from global platforms like Google and OpenAI, emphasized building digital proficiency, and leveraging professional networks like LinkedIn for career advancement. He also proposed a revival of botanical gardens across Sindh to promote indigenous environmental knowledge.
A dominant theme of the ceremony was the paramount importance of practical, industry-aligned skills. Vice Chancellor of Aror University, Professor Dr. Eng. Zahid Hussain Khand, congratulated SALU and stated, "There is more importance of skills than getting a degree." He called for the continuous acquisition of new knowledge to elevate Pakistani universities on the international stage.
Deputy Commissioner Altaf Ahmed Chachar highlighted the Flowers Exhibition as a commendable initiative that merges environmental consciousness with student creativity.
This call for resilience and patriotism was strongly echoed by other officials. Major Waqas Khatak commended SALU's role in nation-building and made a direct appeal to students: "The country needs you. Do not leave; if there are issues, only you can fix those loopholes."
SALU Vice Chancellor Dr. Yousuf Khushk framed the entire week as a strategic platform to enhance competencies and environmental stewardship. "The Flower Exhibition signifies our duty to work for a better land for the future," he said, connecting aesthetics with ecological responsibility. Noting the shift from physical books to digital libraries, he suggested the students to transform into "job providers, not job seekers."
Translating this focus into action, a three-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between VC SALU and Mr Bhutoo from the Sindh Skills Development Programme (SSDP). The agreement is designed to enhance technical skills, foster entrepreneurship, and improve the employability of Sindh's youth, reinforcing the message that a degree must be complemented by practical knowledge for national progress.
Concurrently, the Department of Political Science organized a seminar on “Pak-China Relations since the genesis of Pakistan.” Faculty members, including Professor Dr Taj Lashari, Dean of Social Sciences Professor Dr. Liaquat Ali Chandio, and Dr. Shahida Ameer Chandio elaborated on the deep bilateral ties.
Following the formal agenda, an immediate focus on student development was demonstrated through an Orientation and Career Counseling Session organized by Professor Dr Hisam-Uddin Shaikh Chairman of the Department of Mathematics and the Students’ Societies Centre.
The inauguration concluded with a group photograph and a clear directive from the university administration: Students’ Week is not merely for entertainment but is a structured "learning process" designed to unlock potential. The upcoming schedule includes debates, singing competitions, and further career counselling sessions aimed at promoting critical thinking and intellectual growth.
