In a resounding tribute to the academic community, the Vice Chancellor of Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU), Meritorious Professor Dr. Yousuf Khushk, declared teachers the "power, strength, and eye of the university," emphasizing they are its true identity, not the buildings of university.
The remarks were made during a Democratic Gala Dinner and Musical Night organized in honor of teacher community at the university today.
Addressing a gathering of senior faculty, deans, and pro-vice-chancellors, Dr. Khushk elaborated on the critical role of educators. "Teachers are the backbone of the university and society. They are the only ones who can play a pivotal role in the advancement of society," he stated, underscoring that it is the teacher's belief and dedication that groom the students.
The Vice Chancellor called for a culture of mutual respect and support. "We should love students, and teachers should be respected," he said, while also acknowledging the role of associations in the betterment of the institution.
Dr. Khushk outlined a forward-looking agenda for SALU, urging the faculty to focus on high-impact academic work. He called for initiatives to launch post-doctoral programs, increase work on research journals and conferences, and continue writing projects for the Higher Education Commission (HEC).
Highlighting the administration's support, he stated, "The university has supported you, and in return, you have to contribute to the university." He also pointed to the restored trust in the institution, noting that with credibility comes financial support, as stakeholders are confident their funds will not be misused.
The Vice Chancellor further said the SALU family may hold differences, but we must not allow them to turn into hostility.
We may raise questions, but we must not weaken our own institution. We may offer criticism, but we must refrain from personal attacks, he added, saying If we practise this consciously, the SALU family will become one of the most successful families in academia.
SALU is our shared responsibility,
and the more love, sincerity, and commitment we give to this institution,
the more dignity and respect it will return to all of us, Dr Yousuf Khushk stated.
The event served as a strong show of unity and support for the Vice Chancellor's leadership. Professor Dr. Akhtiar Ali Ghumro, echoing the sentiments of many, declared that the university is on the right direction under Dr. Khushk's stewardship.
"We own the university and we will keep working for the betterment of the university and a quality education and research culture. We are with Vice Chancellor, as he is the most competent and honest," Prof. Ghumro said.
