Dr. Shaukat Ali Principal Scientific Officer, Pakistan Agriculture Research Council (PARC), Islamabad called on Prof Dr. Parveen Shah Vice Chancellor Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur. They exchanged views of mutual interest particularly for the promotion of research on Bt Cotton, Banana, Date palm etc. Dr. Parveen Shah apprised Dr. Shaukat regarding the efforts taken by the University in the field of education and research. On the occasion, Dr. Shah remarked that lack of education, social implication, awareness and technical knowhow, research could not progress at its maximum level. Dr. Shaukat shared the Vice Chancellor about the benefit of Bt Cotton crop, issue of quality of seed, adulteration in seeds and lack of control of government over the seed procurement. Dr. Shaukat said this area is prime location for the cultivation of Cotton, Mango, Banana and Date Palm. Dr. Parveen Shah invited the Pakistan Agriculture Research Council, Islamabad to arrange the conference on the Bt Cotton and Date Palm for the awareness of the growers of this area, in order to redress their issues. Dr. Parveen Shah also suggested that PARC may set Plant Diagnostic Centre, DNA Figure Print Test and Bio Monitoring Center at Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur. Dr. Shaukat assured that these proposals will be placed before the Chairman PARC because this area is mandatory for PARC. Moreover, PARC will also help in any research project. Dr. Parveen Shah assured that Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will be signed with the PARC for research linkages and collaborative efforts will be taken for the promotion of research on Date Palm, Mango, Bt Cotton and Banana. On the directives of Prof Dr. Parveen Shah Vice Chancellor Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur a meeting was held in the Directorate of Planning and Development Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur. Prof Dr. Ghulam Ali Mallah Director Planning & Development chaired the meeting. Speaking in the meeting, Dr. Mallah said that under the visionary leadership of sitting Vice Chancellor the different developmental projects are being prepared for the physical development of University. During the meeting, it was proposed that PC-I will be prepared and submitted to Federal Government/Sindh Government for funding and construction of Bus Shed, because more than 25 fleet of buses are standing without shed and got damage. The different sites were visited for the construction of shed. A meeting of Prospectus Committee for admissions 2014 was held at Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur in order to finalize the draft of Prospectus 2014. . Prof Dr. Parveen Shah Vice Chancellor SALU, Khairpur presided over the meeting. Speaking to the participants of the meeting, Dr. Parveen Shah said this is the first ever comprehensive draft of prospectus, the Centralized Admission Process (CAP) is being implemented at campus. The purpose of this practice is to save the money, time and to facilitate the students to get their admissions in this institution. Dr. Shah said that we are striving to impart higher education to the students of this particular area on modern lines. During the meeting, it was decided that the admission process 2014 will start from the 1st September to 10th October 2013 and the Pre-Entry test for masters program will be conducted on 08th November, while, the Pre-Entry test of bachelor program will be conducted on 09th November 2013 respectively including Shikarpur campus. The academic session of year 2014 will start from 06th January 2014. The Vice Chancellor apprised the guest that after University of Sindh, Jamshoro, SALU, Khairpur caters all the academic needs of the area. Syed Hidayat Ali Shah offered to promote the academic linkage between the two universities. During the meeting, following suggestions were put forwarded by Syed Hidayat Ali Shah in order to maintain close liaison and relationship between the two universities. Launching and opening office of Shah Abdul Latif University in Islamic Republic of Iran Qom city, all activities and bilingual linkages with Iranian universities will follow up through the Shah Abdul Latif University Qom office in Islamic Republic of Iran, launching Islamic Studies Department in Shah Abdul Latif University. The Mysticism subject would be one of the main subject of the department, launching Shah Abdul Latif Virtual Campus (long distance studies) for away students, online conferences, Seminars and Speeches for the students of Shah Abdul Latif University from abroad professors and experts, invite Professors from Iran as visiting professors and let them to share their experience to the students, register the foreign and Pakistanis living abroad students for M.Phil and PhD in Shah Abdul Latif University through online, the registration of Shah Abdul Latif University as a member of International Association of Universities (IAU) and to organize and manage the Alumni of Shah Abdul Latif University and tie up with graduate students of the University. Prof Dr. Parveen Shah assured the Syed Hidayat Ali Shah that these proposals will be submitted in the statuary bodies for getting formal approval than these proposals will be implemented by the both sides in the letter and sprit. On the directives of Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah, regarding the starting of classes of first year MBBS at newly established Khairpur Medical College of Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences, Jamshoro. A high level meeting was held at Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur. Prof Dr. Naushad Ahmed Shaikh Vice Chancellor LUMHS, Jamshoro chaired the meeting. At the outset of the meeting, Dr. Shaikh briefed the participants that with the keen interest of CM Sindh this medical college has been established at Khairpur in the existing building of Govt. Elementary College, Khairpur. Dr. Naushad Shaikh said this college will cater the health education of this area on modern lines keeping in view the needs of the existing time. Vice Chancellor apprised that CM Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah has initially allocated Rs. 400 Millions in order to repair and renovate the existing building. Moreover, Rs. 3 trillion has also been allocated for the construction of new building with state of art. In this connection, 60 acres piece of land has been allotted in Deh Mitho Mari near Luqman Khairpur, hopefully within short span of time the building will be handed over for academic and research purpose. The 100 seats initially announced for admissions in Khairpur Medical College. It is pertinent to mention that the admission policy/allocation of seats on districts basis would be decided by the Honorable CM Sindh in next week. Dr. Shaikh enumerated that we have applied for registration in Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC), hopefully we will get registration within one week. The Vice Chancellor added that the building for girls hostel has been acquired from Govt. Women College, Khairpur and repair work has been completed. Dr. Naushad Shaikh revealed that we are trying to hire the services of 23 consultant and specialist who are working at the District Head Quarter Hospital, Khairpur to render their services for Khairpur Medical College. Efforts are underway to declare existing District Head Quarter Hospital as teaching hospital attached with Khairpur Medical College. Later on, Dr. Naushad Shaikh also briefed the Media Persons that this scheme is gift for people of this area because they will avail the health education at their door step and he lauded the efforts of CM Sindh who approved this scheme. Moreover, at some extent it will also reduce the unemployment. Dr. Shaikh further briefed that the classes will start from the end of December 2013. A high-level meeting was held at Vice Chancellor Secretariat in order to review the matters regarding future ranking of Shah Abdul Latif University, fund raising measures and finalizing the visit of Honorable Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah. Prof Dr. Parveen, Shah Vice Chancellor SALU, Khairpur chaired the meeting. At the outset of the meeting, Prof Dr. Parveen Shah extended her congratulations to participants about the ranking of SALU which is set as 07th best University of Pakistan among the 18 public sector Universities in general large category. Dr. Shah expressed that it is because of our accumulative and serious efforts. I strongly believe in teamwork as it leads to best performance and success, she added. At the meeting, it was decided that each faculty member will publish at least two research publications in international reputed/HEC recognized journal. It was also decided that fund raising campaign may be launched as a regular activity. A committee would be constituted comprising of Chairpersons, Chairmen, Deans and Directors to collect the funds form individuals, corporations and government. The Vice Chancellor informed the house that Chief Minister Sindh has consented to grace the Eid Millan Party/Dinner that is scheduled to be held here at SALU in the month of August. Dr. Shah briefed that in the recent meeting with Chief Minister, we have submitted three developmental schemes of University i.e construction of boundary wall of campus, construction of main gate and bell out package to minimize the existing financial crisis. The Officers Welfare Association Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur hosted a dinner in the honor of Vice Chancellor Prof Dr. Parveen Shah. Speaking on this occasion, Dr. Parveen Shah said that I am proud of my team which has always been great support and added value to the over all re-structuring of administrative atmosphere. We all are heading towards a destination in which every individual is supposed to deliver with the utmost dedication, sincerity and honesty. Time has proved that Universities had enhanced the functionality by expansion plan in respect to curricular and co-curricular activities, which needs peace, harmony, and stability under the umbrella of good governance. I am hopeful that with your cumulative efforts and cooperation the image building of our University will enhance at par with the international standards. I proudly want to share an achievement regarding the ranking of our University, with the help of Almighty Allah and support of our team we successfully have upgraded Shah Abdul Latif University in the ranking as number 07 general University among the top ranked 18 public sector Universities of the country. Dr. Shah remarked that despite financial crunch we have promoted on the basis of seniority-cum merit the sizable number of officers from BPS-16 to BPS 20. I am extremely thankful to Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah who extended support to release 266 million as aid in grant so the financial crisis at some extent has been minimized. Speaking on this occasion as Chief Guest, Mr. Mohammad Tahir Khan Chairman Sindh Universities Officers Federation said I am extremely thankful to Prof Dr. Parveen Shah who has promoted within short span of time the officers and their problems are being redressed on the priority basis. He said that SALU Officer Welfare Association will render the work in dedication and will enhance the image building of the University. He requested the Vice Chancellor that the implementation of time pay scales of the officers in this University. The Higher Education Commission, Islamabad has announced the ranking of Pakistani Universities 2013 on the basis of quality and research. Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur ranked as the 07th best University in large category in Pakistan in term of quality and research. It is recalled that 18 general Universities in Pakistan were ranked as best Universities. The Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur earned the score 69.284. In ranking of 2011, SALU, Khairpur stood 05th best University in medium category and earned the score 28 and in the year 2006 it stood on the ranked in 52 as general University. On this occasion, Prof Dr. Parveen Shah Vice Chancellor SALU, Khairpur has extended her felicitation to faculty members that on account of their untiring efforts, the image of University raised and hoped that in the future the SALU, Khairpur will stood on significant place in ranking by their cumulative efforts.

The 51st meeting of Advance Studies and Research Board (ASRB) was held in the Vice Chancellor Secretariat. The Board approved Research Synopsis/Proposals of 04 in Microbiology, 06 in Sindhi and 06 in Urdu of Research Scholars. Meanwhile, the Board also appointed Research Supervisors for different scholars who were already registered for their M. Phil and PhD degrees. A meeting regarding the providing the Medical/Health Insurance service to the employees of Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur was held on Friday. Prof Dr. Parveen Shah Vice Chancellor SALU, Khairpur presided over the meeting. Speaking on this occasion, Dr. Parveen Shah remarked that despite financial crunch, we are committed to provide the basic medical facility to our employees. At the outset of the meeting, Convener of Medical /Health Insurance Committee Prof Dr. Yasmeen Faiz Kazi briefed the house regarding the development of the previous meetings. She told that four medical/health insurance companies participated in the talks with the committee for the provision of medical care for employees. On this occasion, it was decided that complete data of the employees would be collected. The annual financial impact may also be analyzed and the revision in the existing medical policy may also be adopted than if possible the private medical/health insurance company may be given chance to provide complete medical health cover to all employees of University.
