Alumni Association Card Distribution Ceremony

The membership card distribution ceremony of Alumni Association of Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur was held on Wednesday at Syndicate Hall of SALU. Prof Dr. Parveen Shah Vice Chancellor distributed the Alumni Membership Card among the life time members and honorary members. Speaking on this occasion, Dr. Parveen Shah remarked that first ever Alumni Association would play a pivotal role in the curricular and co-curricular activities, it is treated as viable platform of old graduates. Dr. Parveen Shah said that within the short span of time the academic and research activities multiplied. It is the high time that we must own this institution because ownership and responsibilities are inter-related for the congenial and conducive environment of the institution. The Director Alumni Association Prof Dr. Shafique Ahmed Arain briefed the Vice Chancellor regarding the future plan of the association, he proposed to make the association more effective the departmental chapter will be introduce, they will registered their old graduates in their respective departments. Consultative seminars will be organized, career counseling, award of scholarships, projects and modules etc will be prepared. It was announced that on 10th June 2013 Alumni Seminar will be organized, in which eminent scholars, renowned civil society activists and prominent citizens will participate in the seminar. Mr. Qurban Ali Mangi, Dr. Khalida Mahar Department of Chemistry received the life time membership card. While, Prof Dr. Yousuf Khushk, Dr. Sofia Khushk, Syed Tariq Hussain, Mr. Tariq Bin Umar, Mr. Najmul Hassan, Syed Baqir Ali Shah and Prof Dr. Shafique Ahmed Arain have received regular membership card. The ceremony was attended by Prof Dr. Ayed Ahmed Hussain Shah Dean Faculty of Social Sciences & Arts, Prof Dr. Yasmeen Faiz Kazi Dean Faculty of Natural Sciences, Syed Abdul Ghaffar Shah Rashdi Registrar and others.

Seminar on Comrade Hyder Bakhsh Jatoi

One-Day Seminar on the Life & Achievements of Comrade Hyder Bakhsh Jatoi was observed at Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur on Tuesday, organized by the Department of Political Science. The seminar was presided over by Prof Dr. Parveen Shah Vice Chancellor SALU, Khairpur. A glowing tribute was paid to Revolutionary Leader. Speaking on the eve of seminar, Dr. Parveen Shah remarked that Comrade Hyder Bakhsh Jatoi was national hero; he rendered tremendous services for the cause of peasants. His personality was versatile; Comrade Hyder Bakhsh Jatoi was inspired by the socialist movements and the revolutionary movement of Shah Inayat Shahed. He launched his Hari Movement on the footstep of Shaheed Shah Inayat and introduced famous slogan Hari Haqdaar. Dr. Parveen Shah said that I am proud that the first ever seminar in the history of University is being organized during my tenure as Vice Chancellor of University on the lofe of Comrade Hyder Bakhsh Jatoi, because this seminar will pave the way for the awareness among our youth. Mr. Mukhtiar Samo Director Knowledge Centre, Larkana said that Comrade Hyder Bakhsh Jatoi was a great visionary leader having towering personality fought against the landlords in favor of downtrodden people and fought against the atrocities committed by feudals. He was also against bureaucratic nepotism, injustices and inequalities. In year 1945, he resigned from the post of Assistant Commissioner (14 year service) and introduced popular slogan Hari Haqdaar and kicked off bureaucratic attraction and fought against ruthless rulers. He fought for the introduction of tenancy act for the improvement of plight of the people. In 1930 he joined Hari Committee of G M Syed for the promotion of rights of the peasants. He struggled for the cause of Sindhi language, expression of rights. He launched a newspaper “Hari Haqdaar”, with his untiring efforts the tenancy act was passed by Sindh Assembly. Comrade also launched struggle in favor of the giving official status to Sindhi language. He was national poet, used his poetry against repression and wrote Shikwa, Tuhfa e Sindh, Harian Jo Zamano, Salam e Sindh, where he portrayed the real picture of suppressed people. He remained in prison for 08 years in different jails of Pakistan Kot Lakh Pat, Mianwali, Mach, Lal Kilo. His motto was courage and discipline. He added. Mr. Abdul Malik Khoso activist from Jagarta Forum, Sukkur also spoke on the life and struggle of Comrade HYder Bakhsh Jatoi. He said that he was impressed by the ideas of Karl Marx, which started in 18th century against the exploitation. He did his graduation in 1927, during the time of service he remained in contact with peasants because at that time the feudal system was very strong. He is called as Masiha of peasants. His contribution is laudable in the awareness of the problems of the peasants. Mr. Imdad Hussain Chandio Assistant Professor Department of International Relations in his speech said that, it is our duty that we must give awareness to our youth regarding the struggle rendered by Comrade Hyder Bakhsh for the cause of the nation. Comrade was multidimensional personality. He loved with Sindh and cause of the Sindh; he struggled for the identification of Sindh. His poetry is revolutionary because he struggled against the one unit movement, he also wrote poetry for the promotion of universal peace, tranquility, harmony and brotherhood. He condemned the attitude of international imperialism through his poetry. Dr. Saifullah Joyo Associate Professor Political Science Govt. Degree College Naushehro Feroze said that Comrade Hyder Bakhsh Jatoi was a devoted person, he established during his struggle the office of Hari Committee in each district of Sindh to redress the grievances of peasants, when one unit was imposed he condemned this action as resulted there was reaction from the side of government and he wrote famous pamphlet “Justice of Chief Justice”. Mr. Muneer Chief Justice in retaliation awarded five year vigorous imprisonment to Comrade Hyder Bakhsh Jatoi because Justice Muneer supported the action of government regarding the imposition of one unit plan and supported the government on the principle of doctrine of necessity. Renowned Politician Mr. Rahim Bakhsh Jafferi Keynote Speaker of the seminar remarked that it is matter of high pleasure and rejoice for me that first ever seminar is being organized in this alma matter. He said that with the education and practical approach Comrade Hyder Bakhsh Jaoi led the peasants united. It is high time that there is need of such type of leadership for the resolution of the genuine problems of the peasants and workers. His writings, speeches and poetry infuse the enthusiasm among the youth and peasants against the one unit and the atrocities committed by feudal lords. He said that after Hyder Bakhsh Jatoi Late Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto was the real supporter of the cause of peasants. He lamented that at this juncture Sindh is divided on community basis, Rajoni Ittehad. He advised the students to follow the path of Comrade Hyder Bakhsh Jatoi. Prof Dr. Syed Ahmed Hussain Shah Dean faculty of Social Sciences & Arts in his speech said that, Sindh is the fertile land who produces the revolutionary leaders like Comrade Hyder Bakhsh Jatoi. Comrade was the symbol of national unity, he struggled for the right of the peasants without any compromise. At the outset, Prof Dr. Amir Ali Chandio delivered his welcome address, he cordially welcomed the guests, teachers and students on their arrival in the seminar. He also extended his cordial thanks to SALU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr. Parveen Shah for her support in the organizing the seminar in befitting manner. Dr. Chandio said that our heroes scarified for the cause of Sindh like Hyder Bakhsh Jatoi. A large number of teachers, students and researchers also attended the seminar. The entire proceedings of the seminar were conducted by Ms. Shahida Amir Chandio, Lecturer Department of Political Science.

Meeting Bilawal Bhutto Zardari Park

A Meeting to review the existing facilities at Bilawal Bhutto Zardari Pak was held at Syndicate Hall of Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur. Prof Dr. Parveen Shah Vice Chancellor SALU, Khairpur presided the meeting. Speaking in the meeting Dr. Parveen Shah said that SALU, Khairpur is committed to provide recreational facilities to the local peoples at their doorstep because, recreational activities promote healthy culture in the society, she added. During the meeting, it was resolved that the utilities/liabilities of an amount Rs. 30 Lac incurred on the payment of utilities would be paid by the District Government, Khairpur. PC-I of the park would be revised for the smooth working of the Bilawal Bhutto Zardari Park as Community Park of the Khairpur city. On this occasion, Mr. Anwaar Ahmed Additional Deputy Commissioner, Khairpur assured that the liabilities/utility bills would be reimbursed to SALU, Khairpur at earliest. It is recalled that the park has been handed over to SALU, Khairpur through MoU signed by the District Government, Khairpur and SALU, Khairpur. Order Distribution Ceremony

Prof Dr. Parveen Shah Vice Chancellor Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur regularized 69 Daily Wages Employees working from 14 years length of service on daily wages basis. Speaking in the appointment orders distribution ceremony, held on Friday at Syndicate Hall of University, Dr. Parveen Shah remarked that it is matter of great pleasure and rejoice for me that with the bless of Almighty Allah the lower daily wages employees are being regularized. Dr. Shah said that I am extremely thankful to former Chief Minister Sindh, who allocated Rs. 266 Million as grant in aid, so on this generous support these employees have been regularized. This is the first ever development in the history of Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur that 69 persons have been regularized. Dr. Parveen Shah advised the employees to strive for the development of the University and divert their energies for the positive development, because supporting staff is the main pillar of the University, she added. On this occasion, Syed Abdul Ghaffar Shah Rashdi also advised the employees to concentrate on their assigned work, because man power is the source of institutional development. The President of the Employees Welfare Association Mr. Mir Hassan Maitlo and General Secretary Mr. Raza Mohamamd Durrani also extended their cordial thanks to Prof Dr. Parveen Shah and Syed Abdul Ghaffar Shah Rashdi Registrar for the regularizing of Daily Wages employees. The Vice Chancellor Dr. Parveen Shah and Registrar Syed Abdul Ghaffar Shah Rashdi handed over the orders of regularization among the employees are Sahib Khan Shaikh, Ghulam Sarwar Bhutto, Allah Dino Mahesar, Taj Mohammad Mahar, Syed Shakeel Shah, Shahid Hussain Rind, Abdul Hameed Khemtio, Ishtiaq Hussain Mangrio and others. Meeting of Directorate of Post Graduate Studies

A meeting of Directorate of Post Graduate Studies Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur was held on Thursday, in order to fix the schedule of first semester examination 2013 of MS/M. Phil and PhD. The meeting was presided over by Prof Dr. Nisar Ahmed Kanhar Director Post Graduate Studies. Speaking on this occasion to the concerned chairmen Dr. Nisar said that with the untiring efforts of Prof Dr. Parveen Shah Vice Chancellor SALU, Khairpur the research culture has developed. The first ever Directorate of Post Graduate Studies has been established in order to streamline the process of research at campus, because research occupies significant importance in the society. After detailed deliberations, it was decided that the process of filling of examination forms will start from 23rd May 2013. While, the semester examinations will commence from 1st June to 10th June 2013. The results will be submitted before availing/start of summer vacations. The Chairmen of all teaching Departments including Director Research and Director Quality Enhancement Cell also attended the meeting.

MoU Between SALU and Azerbaijan

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the theme of Inter University Consortium for the Promotion of Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities Pakistan (IUCPSS) was signed between Azerbaijan and Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur. The one of the main function of the consortium includes establishing linkage with national and international organizations and countries for improving social sciences, arts and humanities education and research activities in Pakistan. The main areas of cooperation includes: to establish Heyder Aliyev Corners in member Universities of Consortium, to develop linkages between the Universities, joint research projects, youth exchange programs, joint sports activities and other areas of mutual interest. H. E Mr. Dashgin Shikarov, Ambassador of Republic of Azerbaijan, Prof Dr. Javed R Leghari Chairman Higher Education Commission, Islamabad and Prof Dr. Parveen Shah Vice Chancellor Shah Abdul Latif university, Khairpur signed the Memorandum of Understanding. It is recalled that 11 renowned and prestigious Higher Educational institutions of Pakistan are the signatories of this MoU.

Briefing about on going Projects

Mr. Dilawar Ali Mangi Director General Planning & Development and Research, Education and Literacy Department Government of Sindh visited Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur, in order to monitor the working of on going projects. On this occasion, Mr. Imdad Ali Sial Project Director (Works) briefed Mr. Mangi about the pace of work of three construction projects funded by Education and Literacy Department, Government of Sindh. Mr. Sial briefed that the work of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Chair, University Model School and Shikarpur Campus are in progress. Mr. Sial assured him that the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Chair will be completed in stipulated date of completion 16th August 2013. While, the building of Model School will be completed on 25th August 2013. Mr. Dilawar Ali Mangi felt satisfaction over the work of on going projects of Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur. On this occasion, Mr. Noorullah Malik Director Planning & Development and the Engineers of the Engineering Wing were present during the briefing.

A Condolence Reference in connection with the brutal murder of Shaheed Professor Dr. Lutuf Ai Phulpoto Dean Faculty of Commerce & Business Administration was held at the Allama I. I Kazi Hall of the University, organized by the Shah Abdul Latif University Teachers Association (SALUTA). Glowing tribute and homage was paid in the honor of Shaheed Professor. Prof Dr. Ghulam Sarwar Markhand President SALUTA presided over the reference. Prof Dr. Ghulam Sarwar Markhand President SALUTA while delivering presidential speech said that the brutal murder of Prof Dr. Lutuf Ali Phulpoto is treated as national tragedy. The Late Professor was skilled, learned and asset of the nation. Dr. Markhand remarked that Dr. Phulpoto rendered remarkable services in the uplifting the faculty of Commerce and Business Administration. He said that the killers of Late. Prof Lutuf Ali Phulpoto must be apprehended. Syed Asad Raza Abidi General Secretary SALUTA also paid rich tribute and homage to Shaheed Lutuf Ali Phulpoto and said that he contributed a lot in the unification of teachers; his role in the development of institution was remarkable. Speaking on this occasion, Prof Dr. Badruddin Memon Chairman Department of Microbiology lauded the meritorious services rendered by Shaheed Prof Dr. Lutuf Ali Phulpoto in the field of education and research. Dr. Memon said that Dr. Lutuf was committed and devoted with the institution. His services would be remembered for a long time. Prof Dr. Minhoon Khan Leghari Chairman Department of Business Administration remarked that Dr. Lutuf Phulpoto was genius person, always believe in optimism and he was sincere with the institution. He always believed in humanity. He never felt disappointed from his attitude in official matters. Prof Dr. Amir Ali Chandio Chairman Department of Political Science said that I met with Dr. Lutuf Ali Phulpoto in year 1991, while joining this University, his attitude during the first personal meeting was decent and polite. He always believed in the welfare of teaching community. He demanded from the Chief Justice of Pakistan that a Soumotto action may be initiated to investigate the cause of murder through F.I.A and this case may be treated as high profile case and the killers may be arrested immediately. Prof Dr. Mohammad Aslam Memon Chairman Department of Commerce in his speech said that I have intimacy and friendship with Late. Prof Lutuf Ali Phulpoto since 26 years ago. I always found him courteous, devoted and dedicated. In the capacity of Dean Faculty of Commerce and Business Administration, he managed the officials' affairs in well organized way and he believed in merit and transparency. He proposed that the newly constructed auditorium hall of Faculty of Business Management after the name of Shaheed Prof. Lutuf Ali Phulpoto. Prof Dr. Yasmeen Faiz Kazi Dean Faculty of Natural Sciences said in her speech that I worked with Dr. Lutuf Ali Phulpoto in the capacity of Dean, during official meetings his attitude and suggestions were worthy for presentation and his attitude was decent and polite. His contribution and achievements would be remembered among the faculty members and students for a long period. Prof Dr. Syed Ahmed Hussain Shah Dean Faculty of Social Sciences & Arts said that Dr. Lutuf Ali Phulpoto always believed in team work and he was duty bound and his personal dealing was fair enough. Mr. Raza Mohammad Durrani General Secretary Employees Welfare Association said that the attitude of Dr. Lutuf Ali Phulpoto with lower staff was humanitarian. He always loved with lower staff and he played important role in the promotion of employees during Departmental Promotion Committees. In the end, the resolutions were passed by the faculty members, employees, officers and students. 1. They highly condemned the brutal killing of Dr. Lutuf Ali Phulpoto. 2. The house condoled with the family members and felt grief and sorrow over the sad demise of Prof Lutuf Phulpoto. 3. The house requested from the University administration that newly constructed auditorium hall of faculty of Management Sciences may be named after the name of Shaheed Prof Dr. Lutuf Alli Phulpoto. 4. The house demanded from the Honorable Chief Justice of Pakistan kindly take cognizance of the matter and take soumotto action on the killing of Shaheed Professor. The house prayed Fatiha for the departed soul. The large number of faculty members, officers, employees and students attended the reference.

SALUTA Dinner

Shah Abdul Latif University Teachers Association (SALUTA) hosts annual dinner in the honor of Vice Chancellor Prof Dr. Parveen Shah and all the Faculty members at the main central lawn of the University last night. Speaking as Chief Guest, Prof Dr. Parveen Shah congratulated the Executive Council of SALUTA elected body on the achievement of this landmark of being elected unopposed. It is really a matter of great honor for me as it is the only body elected unanimously for the first time in the history of Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur. I am proud of my team which has always been a great support and every faculty member has added value to the overall restructuring of the academic atmosphere. Time has proved that Universities enhanced the functionality by expansion plan in respect to curricular and co-curricular activities, which needs peace, harmony and stability under the umbrella of good governance. Dr. Shah remarked that I am confident enough that with the help of teachers and their cooperation we have to long way to go and bring our University at par to the international standards. Dr. Parveen Shah said that the genuine problems of the teachers, officers, employees and students would be resolved on top priority basis. Prof Dr. Ghulam Sarwar Markhand President SALUTA said in his speech that with the help of Senior Professors after one decade we are united under the umbrella of SALUTA. Dr. Markhand appreciated the efforts of Prof Dr. Parveen Shah Vice Chancellor on account of her marvelous performance and solving the problems of teachers on her top priority basis. Dr. Markhand lauded the efforts of Dr. Parveen Shah who timely processed the case of housing society for teachers to the concerned quarters for final approval. On this occasion, Dr. Markhand put forwarded suggestions that every Professor must prepare project in order to enhance the research culture at campus and requested the Vice Chancellor that the selection board for the next promotion of the teachers may be called at earliest. Syed Asad Raza Aabidi General Secretary SALUTA said that within six month of the short span of time Prof Dr. Parveen Shah has resolved the problems of teachers and employees. The one selection board, meetings of departmental promotional committees has been called and the promotions of the teachers and employees have been made without discrimination on the basis of seniority and merit. The Institute of Gender Studies, Alumni Association, bifurcation of examination wing, international conferences and national seminars are on the credit of sitting Vice Chancellor. On the meritorious services rendered by Dr. Adel Abu Saud international scholar from Egypt, who is working in the Date Palm Research Institute (DPRI) in recognition Dr. Parveen Shah and president SALUTA Dr. Ghulam Sarwar Markhand decorated Sindhi Ajrak and Cap to Dr. Adel. The dinner was followed by classical and Sufi music. Ms. Gulshan Jahan from Islamabad and Khabbar Faqeer, Madad Ali Jat, Ghulam Akbar Mirbahar and others from Bhit Shah Shrine of Hazrat Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai (R.A) performed music. The dinner was attended by Prof Dr. Abdullah Phulpoto Pro-Vice Chancellor Main Campus, Prof Dr. Syed Ahmed Hussain Shah Dean Faculty of Social Sciences & Arts, Prof Dr. Lutuf Ali Phulpoto Dean Faculty of Commerce & Business Administration, large numbers of faculty members and their families.

Presentation of Bt Cotton

Dr. Shaukat Ali Senior Scientific Officer National Agricultural Research Centre, Islamabad paid a visit of Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur. Dr. Shaukat met with Syed Abdul Ghaffar Shah Rashdi Registrar of SALU, Khairpur in his office and discussed the matters related with the promotion of research especially in the field of Cotton and he stressed that the liaison with the Botany Department may be initiated for this purpose. Later on, Dr. Shaukat gave his presentation in the Syndicate Hall of SALU. During the presentation he highlighted on “Bt cotton in Pakistan Performance and Adoption under Conditions of Imperfect Information (Planning & SOPs)”. Dr. Shaukat shed light on project objectives of test the efficiency of the Bt cotton seed market in Pakistan, Analyze the net benefits of Bt cotton cultivation in Pakistan, how are the net returns to Bt cotton adoption distributed across different types of farmers and farms, How are net returns distributed across farmers adopting approved, unapproved, and non-Bt cotton varieties, Assess the health and gender impacts of Bt cotton. Dr Shaukat revealed that there gender-differentiated health impacts resulting from reductions in pesticide use, there gender-differentiated wage impacts for household and hired female labor resulting from higher yields or other aspects of cotton production. He discussed in his presentation the testing efficacy of Bt Cotton in 14 Districts of Punjab, 09 Districts in Sindh i.e. Ghotki, Khairpur, Nowshehro Feroz, Dadu, Nawabshah, Sanghar, Umerkot, Hyderabad, Badin. Dr. Shaukat offered to set Bio-Monitoring Cell (Research Centre) at Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur on Bt Cotton and National Agriculture Research Centre will equip the cell for the capacity building. In the Bio-Monitoring Cell the Toxic level of Bt Cotton will be checked and also soil analysis. Moreover in the cell two faculty members and two volunteers students will be assigned to carry out research on Bt Cotton. He pointed out that 09 varieties of Bt Cotton were approved in year 2010. During the presentation Prof Dr. Ghulam Sarwar Markhand, Prof Dr. Abdul Razzaque Mahar, Prof Dr. Taj Mohammad Lashari, Prof Dr. Ghulam Ali Mallah, Mr. Sarfaraz Ali Korejo, Dr. Naveed Ahmed Shaikh and others attended the presentation.
